I just received packet 3 from the consulate in Frankfurt, Germany, and we are preparing for the interview there for my K1 visa.

We ran into difficulties because my fiancee lost her job this week, so getting a letter from her employer as evidence for the affidavit of support is not an option right now. I am reasonably confident that she will find work again soon, but it still will take a few weeks at least. So I am wondering how long I can drag out the sending back documents of packet 3. I was prepared to send in the forms they asked for, but wait with the final checklist where i have to state that i have all required documentation, which obviously would include the documentation for the i134, which i don't have at the moment.

So my questions are:

How long do I have for sending back all info asked for in packet 3 before creating problems/ suspicion?

How long does it take after sending back packet 3 until the actual interview at Frankfurt, Germany?

If i go in for the interview with insufficient evidence for the affidavit of support, will they deny me permanently, or do i get rescheduled for a later date where i can supply the missing documentation? And if so, does that cost 350 bucks again?

Thanks.

1. 2 to 3 months - just remember - that NOA-2 'approval notice' has a 'period of validity' to it. You must interview prior to the end of that period - most 'slow' Embassy IV Units (China, Ghana, for examples) automatically extend this 'period of validity' but you can also request (when you send pack the Packet 3, in cover letter) for a later interview.

2. No Idea - but please check the K-1 timelines in your portal, sort on 'interview date', used 'advanced mode' for viewing.

3. No, not permanently, if the rest of the casefile is stellar. VO's look at 'totality of casefile', not just one thing - so if all else is stellar, you will get an opportunity to submit new info on the new I-134.

Good Luck !
