Curious if everyone registers nowadays for wedding gifts?

I did not register myself, because it was both of our second marriages.

But, I love it when I'm going to attend a wedding and the bride and groom have registered somewhere. It takes away a lot of stress about knowing what to get the couple that they can really use and need. A lot of couples have lived together before marriage, so getting them the perfect gift is very difficult.

If we were having a big wedding (which I dont think we are now -were going to use the money for other things) I think we would have registered yes. It does take something personal away from the whole thing- however in practical terms it makes so much sense. The idea of wedding gifts is to help set a couple up for their future- and 7 toasters isnt going to help much there! So yes registering and getting exactly what you need is a good idea.

If I was already 'set up' however I would probably not. I would keep it more personal.

We registered and it was nice because it is a opportunity to pick up whatever you like and don't care about the cost that much :) Macys was our store :)

We asked for donations to our favorite charities in lieu of gifts.

That is a nice idea!

However....

I bet I stick with gifts....

If it is a first wedding for one or both parties, then I think it is a great idea. Otherwise I think it is just greedy.

first wedding for me.

I kinda think I will just register for my everyday china...

but then I go to weddings...and showers for friends and see all sorts of COOL things!!! *giggle*

We had both never been married before and we had nada. We only asked for money as we were living with keith's parents. But then our pastor ended up giving us one of his appartments and the ladies at our church wanted to throw me a wedding shower, so I registered at Wal Mart.
