Thank you for the replies. I had figured it was not good before I even brought this situation to your forum. It is why I am seeking help. Unfortunately she only speaks OK English and I speak no Chinese (just started trying to learn) so there are times we really struggle to communicate. I already had an idea there is some kind of shadiness in her background and do not care about it other than trying to get things back to normal. I know it is due to her family and she will do whatever is necessary to help her family. Again, I accept that, however my problem is now how to deal with her on the passport issue. I do feel at times she is hiding something and can not get her to open up about it. The last discussion we had about her passport (if I understand right) she also has an ID card with the name on her passport. I am confused about how to approach things and also at the same time I worry about her. I also do not understand the Chinese culture well and think some of our difficult time talking about this comes from my approach. So, any help and advice you can give I will gladly listen to.

As far as Dubai, I had figured it would not count, however, as things stand right now, I am going to Hong Kong in October and try to get a visa into China from there. I may send my passport from Afghanistan to US and try to get visa that way, but I do not wish to be without my passport while over here. The Dubai consolate told me I could get a visa in Hong Kong and have contacted them to try verify that. If I make it into China, we plan to marry than as my divorce should be over next month.

I am frustrated and very worried about this whole visa thing and really do appreciate the information so far. Right now I plan to let it rest for a little time and bring up again next month as my divorce gets closer to being final. At that time I will try again to get her to get the appropriate passport and the visit will not matter as in October we will be in Hong Kong at least anyways.

Thank you again.

Silk,

You should be able to get a visa for China in Hong Kong with little to no trouble. CTS (China Travel Service) has many branches within Hong Kong and they can get a visa for you - they even offer same day service for an extra fee. Usually though the China visas issued to foreigners in Hong Kong are single entry only as opposed to the multiple entry visas that you can get from the Chinese Consulates in the US.

There is one thing that you should probably be aware of if your fiancée is planning on meeting you in HK - PRC citizens must obtain an internal passport/visa for travel to HK. Make sure that the one that she uses is in her own name and not her assumed identity, otherwise you won't be able to use it as proof that you two in fact met in HK.

Thank you for the information on Hong Kong. That is a big relief to know. That way I can plan my trip a little better at least. I really do not like winging it and I have had to do a lot of that over the last 6 months. It also does not help being stuck on a base in Afghanistan where it seems everything is harder to accomplish.

I do intend to have her go under the right passport, however, I am going to give that a little more time. Once the divorce is final next month, I will push the issue more. I do not know how long it takes to get a passport in China though. I'll just have to wing it some more. :)

Thank you again.

There is a CTS at HKG

http://www.hongkongairport.com/eng/passenger/arrival/t1/visa-tourism-info/china-travel-service.html

Single entry and takes several hours. Use the time to cruise the airport because it's a great place.

If she's from one of the PRD cities that shuttles to the airport use the SkyPier

http://www.hongkongairport.com/eng/transport/transport-connection-with-mainland-china/ferry-transfer/service-at-a-glance.html

It's also a great service and you will get a refund on you air ticket for the HK city fee. It's not much but the boys love the colorful HKD.

All depends on arrival time and last boat out what you need to do. As mentioned above, if she's planning to meet you there she will need a HK entry permit. Last time Yi met me there she had to wait about three weeks to get hers.
