I lean more toward conservative when the dems are in power and more liberal when the repubs are in power. Anyone else lean a little or a lot opposite to the ruling party? I'm thinking a lot of moderates do this.

Life..... Nobody gets out alive.

People like Simpson, obviously. There's enough of them out there.

I fail to see the connection between keeping one's mind open to seeing the world differently in different times and mental diarrhea. However, I can see a connection between being rock solid in one's conservative beliefs and having an impacted colon.

More like:

Seriously, who buys into such absolutist rubbish?

are you trying to say that sometimes you sway to the conservitive side.

Pike you know thats not true, we have had many debates and you know I take some liberal positions so that was nothing more than a cheap shot. That said one who changes his/her ideas and philosophy according to who is in office stands for very little and has mental diarrhea.

Americans tend to root for the underdog, but hate losers. I think we like drama.

You can't consider yourself a proper conservative if you care unable to spell the word correctly. Glenn Beck would not be pleased.

You say this:

you know I take some liberal positions

And yet you also say this:

Im a conservative 24/7/365

Now, I'm just a feeble-minded, slow-witted, librul girl, but I am a little confused by what appears to be a contradiction here. Please show me the error of my ways.

Do you really know me good enough to make that statement?

I fail to see the connection between keeping one's mind open to seeing the world differently in different times and mental diarrhea. However, I can see a connection between being rock solid in one's conservative beliefs and having an impacted colon.

Go back and read the OP. Are you really suggesting that we should change our ideas and philosophy according to who has the most power. Thats just silly, its going to take a good debate, research and a lot of thinking before I go changing my mind about something I stand for

i'm pretty conservative in general. i do however lurch to the left on some issues. it doesn't seem to change no matter which party is in power really.

You may not know me, but I do read, and I might flatter myself to think that I have an above average grasp of reading comprehension.

Perhaps we may disagree on this point, but I read the statement as saying the OP's viewpoints may seem more conservative when liberals are in power, and more liberal when conservatives have the whip hand. If this is indeed the case, then the OP's opinions are not changing, but merely the times. It is only in comparison to the prevailing political mores that his viewpoints appear to change.

Im for legalizing marijuana. Would you consider me anything other than a conservative? I think not. But again go back to the OP and look at what I was responding to. I cant believe you guys are trying to defend this

Agree to disagree I guess. I take what I stand for seriously and will not change according to who has power.

I'm not defending anything. And I'm curious that you haven't addressed your contradictory statements about being 24/7/365 conservative yet simultaneously holding "liberal" beliefs. I don't consider legalisation to be a liberal issue, but rather an issue of personal freedom that people across the political spectrum have embraced.
