Oath ceremony took place today, January 11 2011. A brief review follows.

The ceremony was held at the Tampa Convention center at 8:00 am this morning. After being sorted into about three or four groups ie: those on the left, line up along the left wall, those on the right, along the right wall, and those in the middle formed a rather longer line down the middle, we handed in our N445? oath letter which was checked and green cards handed over. A number from 0 to 9 was written on the form with red ink. We were dismissed and asked to return at 0915 am. Some people managed to get their number in five minutes, those at the back of the line took over an hour. We were assigned #3

The room had over a thousand people with 459 new citizens to be, awaiting their swearing in ceremony.The oldest applicant was 88, the country with the most applicants was 1) Colombia, 2) Cuba, 3) Mexico. There were 77 countries represented. The order of events are attached as a file. In addition there was a speaker encouraging voter sign up and passport applications.

The acting director read out all the names of the countries from Armenia(?) to Yugoslavia, after each country the applicants would stand up to a round of applause. he added a touch of humor by saying "South Dakota", yes there was a round of applause also before many of us realized he had missed his comedic calling.

After retirement of the color, we were called by the number that had been earlier assigned and told to form two lines for each number, males and females. Certificates were then presented after which there was a dash to the passport line. We were about 40th in line for passports and I would hazard a guess that some 400 plus got in line for passport applications. Passport photos were being taken for a $15 fee. Copies of the Certificates were made and given to passport applicants. We left at 1145 am, while there were still a few hundred waiting in line to have their passport forms checked for accuracy, before being allowed into the room to have photos taken as the next step in the application process.

So now we are done, thank you to VJ and all you July 2010 applicants for keeping your time lines current, it helps all of us.

Ps. The British do pay taxes before naturalization. :lol:
