Congratulations Buxton babe!

Any details of the interview you would like to elaborate on? Like what questions you got... was the IO a nice person, etc.

I had written quite an extensive report but when I hit spell check it all disappeared as I had not yet installed a spell checker, so here goes, again.

Nothing in the correspondence that we received told us that we had to go together, even though we planned to. We arrived early at the Tampa field office and handed in our interview letter, we were sent to a nearby trailer to wait till our name was called. Once called we both went in and an officer took my wife into the back for an interview. Twenty minutes later he came out and called me back. He told me that he had some questions for me but first he had to swear me in. I was then asked, 1) Have you and your wife been together since marriage? 2) Is there any pending divorce?

I answered yes and no respectively. He then asked my wife for any documents that proves that we were living as a married couple, my wife produced the following; Property taxes, car insurance, bank account, employee health benefits cards, a utility bill, all showing both names.

He then said "Congratulations" you have passed, filled out a form and gave it to us while telling us that an oath ceremony would be scheduled in early January, The whole process took about half an hour.

The IO was suspicious as my wife was showing signs of nervousness. He was friendly enough.

Dear All,

I am finally an American citizen! My interview was at 1 p.m. in Newark, NJ. I arrived at 12.30. They called my name at 3:20 and the interview was done at 3:35.

He asked me to verify my name, DOB, my wife’s name, DOB, date of marriage, place of work, home address. Then he went through the questions on applications of have you ever been arrested etc.. and the “will you questions” also on the applications..

He asked me to read “Who was Abraham Lincoln

And write “we celebrate Thanksgiving every November

Then he asked me

-Who is the speaker of the house

- Who lived in America before the Europeans came

- How many years do senators serve for

- Name 2 national holidays

- Name one of the 2 longest rivers in the U.S.

- How many U.S. representatives are there

Then he said congratulations. Do you still want your name changed, (fixed spelling) I said yes, he said verify the spelling, I did, signed my picture, then he said wait outside to be called for ceremony. I waited for another hour and half and at 5 p.m. they called for the ceremony which took 30 minutes and then they distributed the certificates one by one.

Long day from 12.30 to 5:30 but it was worth it ! Good luck to all of you.

My dates:

First of all congrats to everyone who have been getting their approvals!!!!!

I've been meaning to update this for a couple days, but have been under the weather. I attended my interview on Thursday December 9th in Suffolk County Long Island. After checking in, it took about an hour and 15 minutes before I was called back for the interview. The officer swore me in and then asked if I was changing my name and I replied no. She then administered the test. Some of the questions I was asked included: "Who were brought to America as slaves? What is the name of the vice president? Who makes federal laws? How many amendments are in the constitution? Name a reason why the British migrated to America? Afterwards she asked me the questions on the application and asked me to answer yes or no (i.e. "Was I ever a prostitute?"...etc). Then she began to randomly ask questions about my husband's occupation, our address, our phone number, the date we married, and asked to see evidence that we were living in the same residence. I provided her with the last three years tax papers, a utility bill in both of our names, and our home owners insurance policy in both our names. Lastly, she asked for a copy of his birth certificate. She was satisfied with my responses, congratulated me, and told me that if her computer wasn't down that I could have sworn in within the hour. I felt a bit disappointed upon hearing those words, but she assured me that within a week or two I would be sworn in. The entire interview took about 15 minutes and it definitely was not as bad as I thought. I will update in a couple weeks to reflect my oath ceremony completion.

Congrats to all on their approvals. As for me... well I'm nearing the 5 month mark in 2 weeks and if I don't have my interview notice by then, then I will be contacting my congressman. I received the yellow letter over 2 months ago and keep getting no info from USCIS. I have opened 2 service requests in the last few months and I am happy for everyone getting approved I am really frustrated that I am still waiting.

Congratulations!

Those were exactly the 6 questions 1 got, and I had my interview 3 days earlier on that Monday, confirming the theory that every "week" there is a new set of questions for all.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

President Teddy Roosevelt on Columbus Day 1915
