Sorry, another probably silly question, but when the I-130 is finally approved, what are they actually approving? Does it mean unless there is anything particularly 'outstanding' such as medical problems, police records, problems with support etc that in the interview it should be all straight forward? I just don't understand what they mean by its approved.

Thanks

It means the petition has been approved allowing the beneficiary to apply for the visa at the consulate abroad.

There have been many assumed 'straight forward' interviews which go horribly wrong for a variety of reasons. However, if you have a simple case - no overstays, criminal records, lied on forms, etc - then you should be fine.

Good luck

The next step would be the NVC NAtional Visa Center. You will be asked to submit Affadavit of Support fee bill $70.00 and after NVC receives payment, you can fill out the form and return it with the cover page they will provide you and financial documents w-2s pay stubs, tax returns or transcripts etc. The applicant will be asked to choose an agent. Fill out the Choice of Agent form and return to NVC and then payment of the DS-230 will be submitted ,the agent will have to fill out the DS-230, with the supporting docs and cover page and return to the NVC. Once case is completed it will be forwarded to the embassy. You will receive an interview letter stating the date and time of the interview.

Good luck on your journey.
