Charry went home to the Philippines for a few weeks to vist family. She wanted to go to visit her living family and pay respects to the family members who passed on in the past 2 years. While she was there her 10 year old nephew passed away due ot a freak accident. I didn't go because we could not afford 2 tickets (without using credit) and expenses for the entire trip. Now I am wishing I did because she is freaking out, though that would mean we would then have to pay double for the issues happening now.

She was supposed to fly from Ormoc to Manila today (the 3rd) in order to make a flight at 6:30am on the 4th. Now they (PhilAir) have canceled her flight to Manila due to bad weather in Manila.

The next flight out is 7:40am on the 4th which will put her in Manila around 9ish, 2 and a half hours after her flight home (Delta) is supposed to leave. I contacted Delta about a flight change, the next one available is the same flight but on the 5th instead, and it will cost a $250 change fee. Because the airlines are not partnered, a cancelation at one does not mean a waver of the fee at the other. Delta always overbooks their flights so it's not like they won't have another person waiting on hand to take her seat, meaning they aren't going to lose any money from changing her ticket. They even told me that there would be a credit because a weekday ticket costs less. But they still want their $250 for the change.

To be proactive, I checked the 10 day forecast and Manila is supposed to have T-Storms for the next 10 days. If we pay the change fee now, and her next flight is canceled again, we have to pay another change fee to change the flight again.

At this point it would be better for us to wait until she is in Manila to have the flight changed rather than risk having to pay multiple change fees. There is also the off chance that her Delta flight will be delayed or canceled which would mean she might make the flight, or there would be no change fee. There is even the posibility that once she gets to Manila Delta will change her flight free of charge because she missed the flight. Several other airlines have done this for me in the past, one was due to me getting stuck in traffic, no charge change, another was due to the same circumstances Charry is now facing.

I just needed to vent my fustraition, maybe now I can goto sleep... Yeah probably not.

Just another reason to avoid the $hithole called Manila. Bad thing is most tourist only visit Manila and come away hating the Philippines.

Davao has a International Airport (But it seems like very few flights if any use Davao), and the weather is not as bad as Manila and it seems to get spared from Typhoons, Plus the city is ran by Mayor that makes sure you as a tourist will be well protected, and you don't have every person in the world trying to scam from you.

Only thing Manila is good for is landing at the airport and getting on another plane and going to another city in PI.

Agreed.. It's just unfortunate that there are few ways to avoid flying into Manila if you're visiting from abroad. I think Davao just has the Singapore airlines flight coming in/going out.. Davao is absolutely beautiful, a true gem of the Philippines.

weather-wise...wouldn't really matter where you are at in the Philippines. around this time is the start of the typhoon/monsoon season over there. so whether you are in davao or in manila, you won't get spared once the rainy season starts to go in full swing.
