I have been in chat tonight with my fiancee. She insists that she requires a "certified" copy of my passport. I disagreed with her and I told her I sent in my I-129f with only a "copy" of my passport bio/visa pages and it was accepted by UCSIS and they approved the I-129F. So who is right, her or me? Will she need a certified copy of my passport for her interview at GUAZ IV, or will copies do o.k.? Thanks for your help.

At http://usa.bbs.net/i...w/Interview.htm she found this:

"份经过公证的美国申请人的护照复印件复印件上的国签证和出人境日期必须清晰可见" She can not find the name of person who contributed this advice. Sorry.

Anyway, thanks for your help. She already has copies of my passport bio/visa pages, so she should be good to go! --I hope

'notarization of copy of usc passport' is not required at GUZ IV for interview day.

The instructions at http://guangzhou.usembassy-china.org.cn/forms_and_packets.htm

specifically in the OF-169 - do not cover this, at all.

001 BBS is a collection of sniping women, 90 percent of 'stuff' there is not useful, as most posters are trying to 'one up' each other, and then the game turns into 'how much bad info can I put out there, to trip up a new visa applicant'. Is doubly ridiculous, because of a Chinese woman's propensity to listen to another Chinese Woman, first, for any advice about anything. You should understand that Cultural Pattern, is ingrained, difficult for you to overcome, even with new information, new proof, and especially difficult when 'what you know' contravenes 'what she's been told by another Chinese Woman'. FWIW, don't talk with her about pattern, as she's viewing 001 as 'her' support system, analogous to this DIY immigration portal thingie known as Visa Journey. Talking with her about 001 BBS bullsh|t will only cause further arguments between you two.

Whew !

It's sad, really.

Now, if you need some 'fodder' - tell her that the info on that page is from 2005, and it might have been necessary in 2005, but is absolutely not necessary in 2010. Not at all !

The page link you provided, has OLD INFO on it - but is written to be informational, yes? Is not anything 'current', at all, and the info is outdated.

You already have your answer but I assure you there is no such thing as a certified copy of a US passport. You COULD take your passport to a Notary and have them stamp each page as a true copy but it is NOT necessary. It WILL probably give the CO a chuckle though.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

Yes, it is not addressed in the OF-169. That is what raised my eyebrow. But she now understands and accepts this. I just wasn't sure, that is why I posted the question. So thank you to you and pushbrk for your replies.

That's right it isn't a requirement.

But because my wife was also listening to 001 at the time (2005) AND we were in Beijing I said "Fine. Let's go to the embassy." There I got them to make copies of my passport cover to cover and note that the copy was made by them.

They were all laughing over it.

Edit: I agree with the comments regarding 001. I got trounced for declaring the same by someone on CFL for making the same comment. But it is unbelievable the things that get posted there. Many stories by (what seems to me) jaded ladies.

is weird, Bob - as 001 and CFL 'used to be' 'joined'. Then the management at 001 changed, the harpies came out, and no one from 001 used the 001 accounts at CFL anymore.

But hey - what do I know or care? It's all in the past, and 001, these days, is still a hotbed of 'lets #### with the new ppl'. I wish they could change it, but it is what it is.

Yup. Then there begat an "002", an "003" and I think there is an "004". I'll have to get the scoop from the wife. She only reads them. She dares not post cuz as you said they jump on the newbies with mixed information as to what is and is not needed. Most of the 'experts' on there are still in China cuz there visas were never realized for various reasons.

So what does all this mean for any Chinese wife or husband? Take what you read with a big dose of salt (i.e. be skeptical) but discuss what you read with your American husband or wife.

Be warned American husbands. If the wife hears it from 1 Chinese lady it's a fact. If 2 or more say the same thing then it is the Divine Law. (Like getting your passport copied and notarized. :bonk: )
