We applied for a SS card from a K1 fiance visa 20 days after my fiance landed in the US. We were told we weren't in the SAVE-AVI system and would have to wait up to 4 weeks. 4 weeks and 3 days later, no card had arrived in the mail. So, we went back to the SS office. Our case had apparently been halted. They looked us up, said "oh, you're in the system now," and gave us a paper saying we'd get our card within two weeks. BAH! We didn't get any notification that this was the case - in fact our paper said they'd send us our card or a letter if there was a problem.

Anyway, I hope this helps people in our situation.

Interestingly enough, we had a similar situation, and while searching around on the forum, I found your thread.

They had to manually verify my fiance's info, but we hadn't heard anything for the past five weeks, so we called the SS office today, and they told us my fiance's information has still not been entered into the system and that we should call USCIS. So we called USCIS, and they said that border control never put my fiance in the computer systems!

We still haven't figured all of it out yet (CBP local office is already closed for the day), but the moral of both these stories is that you need to speak up - don't wait weeks because you'll probably find out someone else made a mistake and you lost all that time you could have been fixing it!
