We started to file for my husband's I-130 and DS230 ptI on Tuesday, paid the fee and the petition was approved. The woman said now we are on to part two, gathering medical files, a police certificate, photos, and a military certificate. I've already got the affidavits of support, I'm just waiting on a copy of my co-sponsor's bc/passport.

Anyways, the embassy called me yesterday to say the background check on my husband was already finished. It's only been a couple days so that caught me by surprise, I thought it took longer. She gave me a number to call to set up an appointment.

I've been reading the guides, but I'm still a little confused as to what goes on now...apologies if these questions have already been answered. So far I haven't found them yet.

Do we call for an appointment after we gather all these files? Or should I call them back asap and tell them we are still collecting all the documents?

Also, when we set up this appointment, will they interview him then and have us pay another fee? Or is that still a little farther down the road or does it depend on the embassy?

And one last question, just about the visa in general, they said they may be raising the price of these. Does anyone know how much?

Thanks!!!

I would call them now to see if there is any wait for the interview. It is best to set up an interview after you have all papers, but you could collect them while you are waiting for the interview if there is, let's say, a month wait.

At the interview, you will need to pay the visa application fee and security fee, which are $400 in total until July 12, 2010. Yes, the new fee schedule will be effective on July 13, 2010. It's not a big difference for IR1/CR1, though. It's $404 in total. Here is the announcement from DOS : http://www.travel.state.gov/news/news_5078.html

I also have one more question, I asked but have not had an answer yet. On the affidavit of support I fill out the woman told me to put a statement saying I haven't made enough money in the last year to file for taxes. Where should it go and how should it be worded? Also, I did find employment as of March this year, I work long distance, but I haven't been paid yet because it's a contract and pay as each job is done. How should I fill out my current pay?? Just a N/A?

A simple statement will suffice, attach it to the I-864. In the area where you put zero for the income for that tax year, write a small note to the side "please see attached".

Statement could be something like:

I did not file taxes for 2009 as I was not required to do so because my income was under the cutoff threshold posted by the IRS for the year.

As for this year, you state what your anticipated annual salary will be. Doesn't matter that you haven't been paid yet. Not sure what you are including for proof of this current income, a contract perhaps?

Would a signed letter from my employer work just as well? Or should I attach the contract and a letter?
