Both parents have to give their authorization before a passport can be issued. This isn't like some countries that I would never be able to live in, women and children have freedom to come and go.

Sorry, I didn't mean that in a bad way. I don't see a problem if some countries require both parents permission before a child can board a plane.

I had a roommate when I was a student that told me that if I went to visit his home country as an adult WOMAN, I would not be able to travel without permission from a male relative. That was what I was referring to. I could never move from the US to a country like that.

Edit: Luckily I have that choice. ;)

I agree. No passport for the child, no departure from the U.S.

As far as I know, the U.S. doesn't require explicit permission of both parents for a child to leave but Colombia does require it for the child to return to the U.S. I assume this is the permission he gave her (for the child's return FROM Colombia) but it appears that she has no intention of using it.

Find the child's passport. If you can't find it, report an intended child abduction to the police. Anything you can do to force her to surrender the child's passport.

Good luck..

Correct, Explicit permission not required.... implicit permission was given when the passport was issued.

YMMV

Contact the Airport you think she is going to be flying from and inform them, also inform the FBI and maybe even the FAA. Technically what she is planning on doing is kidnapping, I hope you get things sorted out, best of luck and wish's to you.

Just another thought.. Contact the airline she's flying directly. I'm certain they want no part of an international child abduction when one parent withdraws permission to travel. Anything you can do to deny her boarding will gain you time to take other action.

Best of luck

Another thought though rather drastic is an emergency protective order. You can contact the local police and request information on how to obtain one 24/7. Again this is a very drastic measure and depending on your county of residence may or may not be granted.

Take the passport, if you cannot find it contact the airlines and the FBI.

Thank you guys for all your replies!! Yesterday my friend called her friend that is an atturney and she said to let her go because I gave her a notarized permission to take my son out of the country with a return date and if she goes over that date is officially a child abduction. I hope that she will do the right thing and she will bring my son back home where he belongs.

Thank you guys!!! God bless all...
