Why did you edit your post? I pretty much agree with what you said. Except instead of picking a year such as 5, I would only allow those who were brought in as a minor to stay.

We also need to enforce labour laws.

honestly, i'm at work & i have a military investigator coming up here to my job. he wants to talk to me about a former neighbor applying for a high security clearance job & i didn't want to be in the middle of a pissing match when he got here....i cut it incase someone did read it before i edited it. & yah i'm good w/ kids getting a pass too.

...................................................................................

here is your middle ground mr. president.

seal the fvckin border first!

enforce the current immigration & employment laws.

hammer employers that exploit illegals.

pick a number 5 or higher, if someone can prove they have been here longer than that number years. (visa overstays & people sneaking across the border makes no difference) they get to stay, pay a fine, go to the back of the line, pay your fees, do your medical, do your backround checks.

been here 1/2 that number years? 5 years military service, then the back of the line. yes, full military retirement if they put in 20 years.

everyone else gtfo! wha wha but but stfu & gtfo!

Better not let the tea party fags hear you say this. Amnesty is the ultimate librul socialist ideal.

I do agree with most of that. I differ in that I think they need to start with the employment component first. I don't see the value of a wall, unless you are going to spend the money to adequately patrol it. The problem I see there though is the paying fines etc. Most illegal immigrants aren't working 6 figure salaried jobs. Furthermore, going back to their nation of origin and going through the process legally isn't going to go over well with them. Not taht they would think it's unfair, I think they would ultimately be skeptical that this was some sort of trick.

That rules out using any law enforcement agency in New Jersey.

you gotta stop the bleeding before you heal the wound. border security must be 1st or all the employment enforcement in the world won't mean squat.

we can use the national guard on our side & mexican feds on their side for security while inmates from the border states build whatever fence or wall is decided on....now thats some cheap reliable labor.

nobody need do a touch back. they're already here we can amend procedures.

paying the fines...these people buy cars & property don't they? make payments.

All this requires an enormous financial outlay. So I suppose our first step would be to bring our troops home and give them a proper patrol.

we have a national gaurd & border patrol, we don't need to pull troops from engagement. it can all be worked out financially & logistically. the left isn't getting blanket amnesty & the right isn't getting blanket deportation. there are sensible & humane ways to deal with this issue. both sides of this issue have to be willing to make concessions & be sensible for it to happen. status que isn't getting it done, we just have to do something soon.

The main problem with any kind of immigration reform is that those who are discussing it have no clue what they are talking about. The was clear to me the moment I heard the President this morning talking about it. He spoke about the great minds of history who achieved amazing things yet were immigrants to the US of A.

I respond to the President: Dude . . . Americans have no problems with a handful of Geniusses immigrating legally to the United States every year; Americans have a problem with millions of illegal immigrants who suck the States' and cities' koffers dry. Those are two completely unrelated issues.

He then said it would be logistically impossible to seal the border and deport 11 million people.

I respond to the President: Dude . . . if the Chinese could built the Great Wall of China, and the Russians were able to seal East Germany in a few months, and the Americans were able to walk on the moon as early as 1969, and we were able to piss away a $1,000,000,000,000.00 on the "war in Afganistan", you are telling me seriously that you can't build a 2000-mile fence, make illegal presence in the USA a crime, and enforce the existing immigration laws? If you can't, you have the wrong woman in charge of Immigration.

There are certainly aspects of immigration reform that need to be discussed in detail, but the first step would be to learn about the subject, and the second step would be to seal the border. The third step would be to enforce the current immigration laws, and once all of this has been done, we talk about the details of a reform.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Aren't a majority of our national guard being deployed? Our current border patrol, while doing their best, simply isn't enough. They need far more funding for personnel and equipment.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

they are in an ongoing rotation. the 'it'll cost too much' arguement is horseshit. its a 'look the other way' cop out period. the finance & logistics can be worked out, after an agreement has been reached. BOTH sides have to give. if i'm on the left, i'd be willing to give pretty damn soon. if not this issue is going to kill them in november & obama in 2012. then they're getting run over. because the right will have the numbers to push whatever they want, just like the left has over the last 18 months.

I'm not saying it'll cost too much, I was saying that we can't simply shift our national guard over to guard borders. It would stretch us too thin on both fronts. That is why I still think going the employment route is best to start with. If there is no economic incentive for them to come here, then it will make protecting the border that much easier. I'm not a fan of amnesty, because it validates their illegal crossing. But, I know that deporting them is logistically impossible.

sorry thats not going to work. sealing the border has to be first. there are too many small businesses paying cash under the table for employment enforcement to be an effective first step.

i hate to use this analogy but it fits. its like the gulf spill. we have to stop the leak before truly effective clean up can happen. otherwise we're just removing what we can see, while more pours in. it looks good, but it isn't fixing the problem.

Putting up a wall on our border won't stop them from coming. As long as there is an incentive to come here, they will find a way. A wall will decrease those numbers, but it's not going to stop it, not by a long shot.

you're right. it won't stop it & it will decrease the flow. i seriously doubt we will ever stop it completely, because of the incentive. but, slowing the flow has to be first. otherwise we're just 'making it look good'.
