lol, see what happens when you are a sheep who flocks to a new product without looking into it first!

I have one simple rule. I NEVER buy a brand new electronics product for at least a year after it's been out. There's always going to be issues, bugs, etc.

Gotta let them work those out! ;)

(NewsCore) - Users of the new iPhone 4, who suffer signal problems because of the way they grip their phones, Wednesday filed two class action law suits against Apple in U.S federal courts.

The suits both allege false advertising and breach of warranty by the Cupertino, Calif., technology company, claiming CEO Steve Jobs' response that users "just avoid holding it that way" is not good enough.

In San Jose, Calif., plaintiff Alan Benevisty says his phone drops signal altogether or loses signal strength if its bottom left corner is covered by the palm of his hand, Courthouse News reported.

"Apple CEO Steve Jobs extolled the iPhone 4 in the keynote address at the Worldwide Developers conference on June 7, 2010, stating, among other things, that the iPhone 4 is 'the most precise thing we have ever made' and its 'brilliant design' has 'integrated antennas right in the structure of the phone; it's never been done before and it's really cool engineering,'" according to the complaint.

But despite Apple's claim that loss of reception was a "non-issue" and that users should "just avoid holding it that way," the "cool engineering appears to be the problem," the suit claims.

The company announced earlier this week that the iPhone 4 sold 1.7 million handsets in its first three days on the market -- Apple's best ever product launch.

In addition to telling users to hold the phone differently to avoid the signal issue, Apple said customers could "simply use one of many available cases" -- something Benevisty says "comes as no surprise," as Apple markets these for $29.

A second federal class action, under the name of plaintiff Christopher Dydyk, claims that while the case "magically" fixes the reception issue, it "simultaneously detracts from the aesthetic value of the phone," making the phones customers receive "significantly different from the phones those customers agreed to purchase."

Benevisty sued on behalf of the customers who bought the phone since it was released, and Dydyk on behalf of those who pre-ordered it.

The industry would be very different if there were no early adopters.

of course it would. It's still funny though because those people generally get screwed.

I doubt Apple will have a leg to stand on given that in their advertising they show people holding the phone in a way that would cause signal loss (which is the way you would ordinarily hold a phone in the palm of your hand). Steve Jobs was also photographed holding it that way when the phone was first unveiled.

The Xbox 360 overheating problems have plagued every generation of the console so far, not just early adopters. Most cases are likely due to inadequate ventilation more than anything.

Same problem with the ps3.

The xbox 360 was unique in that internal documents showed it never should have been released when it was. You had engineers saying they needed more time before it could released. Management said no. I suspect the 360 has had the highest failure rate of all consoles.

Very true. We didn't get one until Dec. 2007, nearly two years after it was intro'ed. It died after a year. Just after the warranty was up. Funny how that happens.

Our X-box just had the dreaded red ring of death after 3 years of working just fine. But we googled the 'towel trick' and it really works!

Yeah - it was like 3 in 5 wasn't it? At least with the first and second generations.

I had one for 3 years (think it was 3rd gen) and it worked fine - but I was always careful to make sure there was a good 9-12" of airflow all around.

It lasts for about a week. Then it dies but if you do it again, it works fine.

I think wrapping it in the towel makes it overheat and something inside it 'clicks' again.

iPhone 4 gets a $1 alternative to pricey Bumpers

If you ask us, Apple should be giving away free bumpers, lollipops, and anything else it can think of to keep its otherwise loyal followers from revolting. But the Great Bitten One isn't doing any one of those things, and most of us are stuck either having to pony up $30 for the official salvation from self-inflicted signal harm or looking out to the grey markets. Entering this morose situation with a bit of ingenuity is Oliver Nelson, who alerts us to the fact that rubber wristbands of the sort your favorite cyclist wears are apparently an almost perfect fit when stretched around the 4's antennae. He advises that a 1.125-inch long by 0.125-inch wide incision (into the unstretched band) is necessary to keep the 30-pin port and speakers open, but otherwise it seems like a pretty effortless and dirt cheap way to avoid all this drama.
