Is OK to setup interview in a different state?

We live closer to Charlotte, NC than Charleston, SC and I'm also finding that the Civil Surgeons are cheaper there. Is it possible to get a biometrics appt and AOS interview in somewhere other than your home state?

I've not heard of anyone doing that, and I suspect it would be a major pain.

The problem is that USCIS, as an institution, is a very simple creature. It has it's procedures, it has it's way of doing things, and any attempt to deviate from those confuses it mightily. And when government agencies get confused, it confuses the employees of those government agencies. And when government employees get confused, bad things happen.

What you ask might be possible, but I strongly recommend against any course of action that is likely to confuse a government agency. Confusing a government agency practically never ends well.

DON'T PANIC

I think you can get your Medical & Biometrics done where-ever you want but the Interview is set by the USCIS.

I'd presume that this happens (mostly in smaller states), even though its not publicized a lot. I live in Delaware, had biometrics in Dover DE but my interview will be in Philadelphia PA but this was ordered and set by the USCIS.

I know they hold the interviews at the ´local office´ so maybe that will be the one closest to you even if it is out of state. Hopefully it will! :star:

In our AOS application we put a permanent address (my mother's place ~ 4 hrs drive and in another state) that is different from our apartment where we're living. We received an interview notice to show up in the city of the permanent address, we did and were told at the interview they don't have jurisdiction over our case. We were informed that it was our mistake to put a permanent address that is in a different USCIS jurisdiction than our 'temporary' residence. Our case was then sent to the city where we live and it went to the bottom of the pile (= more processing time/waiting). Immigration works in jurisdictions and I would suggest to take the path of least resistance for USCIS, as HeatDeath referred to.

Hi

I don't claim to be an expert on this, but I plough through these forums picking up pieces of info that help me understand my process. What I think I have learned is that the LEAST amount of resistance you can give to USCIS, the better. I have read all sorts of horror stories, from people moving to new addresses or simply changing appointment dates can cause all sorts of delays and problems. I agree that in most cases the USCIS seem to get it right, but it's where they drop the ball, is where they drop it from a great height !

But of course I understand that everyones thresholds and personal circumstances can have an influence on their decisions.

Me personally, I would try and stick with the way it is, don't give them a reason to miss the pass. That's my 10 cents worth anyway

Take care

Check this: https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=offices.type&OfficeLocator.office_type=LO it's the office locator. you might just find (after entering your zip code) that your nearest office is the one you're hoping for. **fingers crossed** for you.

That's definitely true, but just an FYI on biometrics. I took someone to one in Boston when his was scheduled to be in Providence, and they did his biometrics in Boston when I explained that he was already there etc. So it's possible, but I think you have to catch them when they're not busy, etc.
