Hi Evereyone,

I have a question that I'd like to throw out to all of you:

You've met the love of your life and decided to get married. Question is: "Who handles the finances in the family?" Who pays the bills? How was this dealt with in your relationships/marriages?

Right now, I am, but once Ryan is here, he will be for the most part. And he's ok with that.

I pay the bills with OUR money. We both work and contribute but he is less organized with the bills...so I do it. He GLADLY surrendered that job to me.

If there is a big expense that we don't normally have, we discuss it together and decide.

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

He deals with all the bills....my wages we use for every day needs....we deal with both pounds and dollars in our house, he uses dollars for shopping on base so he rarely needs to carry pounds anyway.

We have a joint account.. he is self-employ so he has all the business cost that he use from our account so he is the one who monitor our account. My paycheck and his money goes into this account and we both use everything together - but anything that is more expensive than $100 we would have to talk first (except his business). He is paying all the bills though :D

I handle paying all the bills but Javier knows exactly what is coming and going. He is well aware of our expenses, he just prefers me to write the checks. Plus, I've seen him write checks and we are much better off with me paying the bills.

Just couldn't stay my @ss away!

I do. I'm more organized. He's not. Besides he asked me to do it.

Beyond household necessities, like groceries and what not, one of us might spend 20 bucks without asking the other. Otherwise we discuss the big stuff.

We're poor as church mice right now so we have to work together.

The way to find out if you love someone or not, is by talking to them.

The more you talk to them the more you either hate them or love them.

This is a bit of a sore point for us... I work my husband does not... I work for nothing... in as much as I earn $35,000, that works out at $1050.00 every 2 weeks after tax and deductions, our rent is $2000.00 per month and it costs me $71.00 to travel to work a month so I have $29.00 a month left...

yes he pays the bills from his SSI and buy's the food.... but I just feel unhappy that I have nothing....

He does not want to find a job because he is autistic and belives that if he gives up his SSI and the job does not work out then he wont get the SSI back again... but I have tried to encourage him to try but he wont... he is very Good with computers and did work for 10 years as a computer tech at a local rehab center... but he just stopped going... now he wont even think about it..

Derek and I do it the exact same way.

We also have separate slush accounts that we put a few extra dollars into here and there so if we want to buy something special without the other knowing - for instance flowers :D - we can.
