Getting SSN at interview??

In the packet 4 which my fiance received it seems to show that you can apply for a SSN at the interview using form DS 230, specifically questions 42 and 43 if I recall correctly.

When I look at the guides and timelines I see that according to the flow you should wait until you are in the USA before applying for a SSN. Is there a reason that this is a better option??

here is what it says in the paperwork of the packet 4:

If you requested a SSN when you applied for your Visa

If you requested a SSN when you applied for your Visa and are the age of 18 or older when you arrive in the US, the information needed to issue a card will be shared with us by the US dept of state and the US dept of Homeland security. You do not need to fill out a special application or go to a social security office. You be assigned a number and it will be sent to you three weeks after arrival.

DS-230 Part II does not apply to a K-1 visa applicant. You should not fill out nor will they accept anything to do with DS-230 Part 2.

Yes, you can and should wait until your fiance(e) arrives in the USA to start getting the SSN.

As the previous poster said, you will not get one until you get to the US anyway, after they process you at the port of entry you can go apply for one and you will receive it within 2 to 6 weeks.
