Hi...

I am in the process of applying for a K-1 Visa for my fiance in Vietnam. We are in the process of requesting police reports. My question is which police report we should request from the Australian Federal Police (AFP)? Their website listed two types of request, one is just the "National Police Check" and the other is "fingerprint and National Police Check".

I called AFP hoping they would have the answer and I wouldn't have to try the US Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, but was advised to contact the US Consulate/Embassy to ask which type of police check they need. And of course, you can't contact the Consulate directly to ask your questions so I thought it might be quicker to try to get an answer through VisaJourney. So, the question remains -- which police check do we need to request. I also asked AFP in case we need the police check with fingerprint, can my fiance go anywhere to get fingerprinted or does it have to be at authorized places. The answer I got was go to the police station. I followed that question with up ANY police stations in Vietnam? And the woman from AFP was unable to give me an answer...she said "check with them to see if they are eligible".

Does anybody know: 1) which type of police check to request; 2) where in Ho Chi Minh city can my fiance go to get fingerprinted?

Thank you for all your help!

If you reside outside Australia

Applicants who live overseas should refer requests to the Australian Federal Police. Applicants are required to apply for a police certificate based on a name and fingerprint check. Police clearances issued on the basis of only a name check will not be accepted. More information is available on their website at: http://www.afp.gov.au/ or via e-mail at vetting@afp.gov.au.
