Anyone had their POE at Philadelphia? I have friend who arrived on August 17 and has not received even welcome letter. She called USCIS 9/22 and gave them her registration number. They didn't find anything for her in the system and she was told to wait, wait, wait. Is there anything else that can be tried? Or does she just wait? She did go to the SSA to get her SSN. She received it on 9/20. Thanks

the big thing is receiving your SSN. now she can work, drive, be on your healtcare plan etc etc. I wouldnt sweat the GC too much. it took my wife nearly 2 months to get everything (see my timeline). uscis is backed up in this matter. you've got the cr-1 visa, which is good enough to show employers that she can work and is a legal permanent resident. also good for traveling back and forth. good luck!

you'll have to go back in person (i think) to correct the name change. my wife had to do the same thing (actually if you live in NYC, you have no choice - you MUST go in person to the SS office; very annoying, since most of the country can just mail their application in)...

Went into the Social Security office today, and turns out that the Sydney Consulate didn't actually apply for the SSN on my behalf.

I'd already pre-filled out the form just in case, and ended up applying for my SSN on the spot.

Within 2wks I'll have my SSN and I'll be complete :D

My POE was 3rd september at chicago O'Hare!be prepared to be waited for 3-4 hours at airport!

I'm POEing at Chicago on October 21st...I only have 2h40m between flights (I'm connecting to Orlando)....eeep. I heard Chicago was a nightmare - and, ironically, only remembered my own 2 hour wait there entering on a J1 after my memory was jogged! - but only after I'd booked my flight. #######/

I'm planning on asking American Airlines for the furthest forward seat possible when I board and letting them know the situation so hopefully they'll let me off the flight first, just wondered if anyone had any other tips (and any experience of how airlines will handle you if you *do* miss your flight due to immigration....)

Thanks for your help :)

dont think you need snail mail, just ar-11 is enough IMO. when i moved (when the USCIS i-130 approval was still pending), it got registered just fine w/ no problems. so dont worry about snailing it!

my wife and I are settling well and looking for a house to buy very seriously, so that's kinda what's on our end. btw, from a tax perspective, if you got married last year and didnt file a joint married return (cuz your spouse was not here till now and didnt have a SSN), then you can file an amended 1040x saying that you supported your spouse last year and thus file a married joint return. the benefit can be significant depending on the tax bracket you're in. would suggest filing one ASAP and seeing if you can get some add'l money from the IRS.

hope everyone else is doing well!

The I-865 is for my husband to file, since the I-864 is still in play and it needs to be snail mailed. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything else I needed to do!

Hey guys, i need your suggestions here.I am in US since 10th of Sept, i now have a SSN and will start a new job tomorrow.Thing is, i did not receive any welcome letter nor GC yet and we moved out about two weeks ago.My brother in law checks the mail there for me so he keeps an eye on anything addressed to me, however we are thinking to better change my mailing address to the one we currently live at.So my question is, how do i change my address, and is it USCIS that i need to contact about this and any GC related questions ? Thanks
