There are no name change issues for us, as she is keeping her maiden name for now. So we are peaceful on that front.

Virginia DMV has been having issues with their computer systems and they have been down for the last few days. It's always one thing after another. But they will work over the weekend to make up for it.

SSN received the 09/04/2010....BYE USCIS SEE YOU IN 2012.....GOT EVERYTHING IN 1MONTH AND 3 DAYS... WOOHOO...

so we went back to the SS office to get my wife's name change done in her card. turns out that the name WAS done correctly and they had it right in the records. The first SS idiot agent who had given my wife a hard time had gotten it wrong and sent us on this panic trail. apparently the way it is in the USCIS records and even her passport is correct, even if the middle and last names are listed in the "surname" spot together. so bottomline, we're thru w/ running around and trying to fix name issues (at least we think!).

we will probably try to confirm with the Indian passport authority as to if her name is indeed listed correctly in teh records. what i dont understand is that if it is, then why dont they f*****g print it like that??!?! afterall, not every official or agent will have a computer in front of them to check the electronic records. most ppl will only look at the paper copy at hand...

so next, we need to figure out how to get my wife a credit card (since she has no credit history in this country) and start building a history. any ideas? we did finally get a joint bank account (so that's also good for generating evidence of bonafides in 2012 when we got to renew the GC), but how do you get a credit card w/o a history? any ideas?

word! we got a 50% off coupon for banana republic and opened a banana credit card which was another 15%. we bougth like $1000 worth of clothes and only ended up paying 400...felt good to feel like robbing the store! gotta love them labor day sales!

You can apply for an secured credit card through a bank or a credit union. Those are quite easy to get. After 12 months or so, it turns to an unsecured one and hopefully, her credit history is good and strong by then!

Oh man, the mall was so crowded yesterday! But we got great deals on a ton of new clothes! Good times!

POE'd @ LAX yesterday and arrived in Denver yesterday afternoon to my new home and a home cooked meal

Denny's and Starbucks for breakfast today. Living the life hahahah.

Now to wait for my SSN and Greencard.

Yeah. My dad just recently got here... and they've apparently got some tricks that help out. I'll no doubt post in here once I receive them

I was wondering who we can call about my wife's green card. We are now 6 weeks from POE and no welcome letter, SS card much less GC. I know we can go to a SS office for that but who do I contact about the green card?

Call USCIS and tell that it's been 30 days since POE and you have not received a WELCOME LETTER yet.

Then listen to them mutter some ####### about an INFOPASS.

Ignore it. It'll get there. It took 53 days for me -- POE to GC in hand.

I did get through to a USCIS supervisor tonight. He said it was sent out and returned because my wife's name was not on our mailbox. They are going to send it out again this week.

At least we are together through this delay, for once..

you can just add her to your credit card. they should let you do that!
