Woohoo! Waiver approved! My wife got a ten-year bar in Feb (illegal presence) and we submitted our waiver 02/17 last year. I just got the letter today that our waiver was approved on 12/28. It`s currently taking six to eight weeks from approval date to pick-up appointment, so she should be home around the end of February and her Greencard ought to show up in the mail about two months later.

:dance::dance: :dance:

that is excellent news! way to start off the new year!

is the alien registration card the "permanent resident card"?

I am suspecting this is a Mexico's Immigration thingee.

Daniel, even though that link is the travel.state.gov site and certainly *should* be the official information, it appears from all of the news reports and links on travel sites that any American, Canadian or Mexican citizens must have a PASSPORT. It's not Mexico's law - it's the US law. If your father is a Mexican citizen and they had let him on the plane, he would not have been allowed BACK into the US without a valid Mexican passport. Apparently the US based Mexican consulates have reported triple the number of passport applicants in the past several months because of this law.

hmm couple of things. yes, what you posted is the US law. and it is being publicized as "you need a passport to come BACK". but upon reading it carefully, it seems to be interpreted to mean LEAVE & RETURN ("travelling [by air] between"). So, my dad, a US PR/Mex Cit, was required to have a passport to board a plane that was travelling from USA to Mex. The text in that site says an alien registration card should suffice.

The "leaving" part was unknown to me. That made me think it was a Mexico law/regulation similar to the USA one we are now implementing. In any case, I now believe it is the US law that was applied to my dad. Do not know if he had his alien registration card with him. I'll find out later today.

It does seem to be interpreted to mean leave and return - hard to know if that's to be prepared upon return or if showing a passport is really necessary in order to leave (seems strange - what if someone had a one way ticket?).

I wonder what the airport personnel would have said if he had showed his alien registration card - I doubt they know that part since it hasn't been well publicized in the news reports. Will they refund the ticket?

Buena suerte!

hmm couple of things. yes, what you posted is the US law. and it is being publicized as "you need a passport to come BACK". but upon reading it carefully, it seems to be interpreted to mean LEAVE & RETURN ("travelling [by air] between").

Will they refund the ticket?

yeah, the fact tat they would not let him board w/o passport made me think it was mexico's thing. Why would the US care?

His ticket, he was going on "stand by", so they did not process him due to lack of passport so was not charged. at least that did not hurt.

This forum has so many bells and whistles! Hope to one day figure out how to pretty up my area...but I suppose that'll come with time, as it looks like this'll be a long journey.
