Hello all,

Well we are going ahead and adopting ANOTHER doggie :) Sometimes I just cant resist!

She is in a shelter in california, and considered a 'problem pooch'. This is because all her previous 'owners' returned her as she wasnt houstrained. It was later discovered that she has bladder stones- she is now on a special diet to prevent them forming again- but no doubt this played a big factor in her problem, and she is now in the habit of peeing wherever she chooses. Also, bieng passed around from place to place she has probably never felt settled enough to consider one place her 'home' to follow her instincts and not want to pee there.

I ve been doing research on various methods of houstraining- but just thought id check with you trusty VJ'ers if anyone had any experience with anything like this or any handy hints for me ;)

Now that she isn't in pain anymore, I would think you could crate train her like any other puppy or dog, yes?

Yes, I think im going to create a 'den' for her in one of the smaller rooms that she sees as 'her place'. And then expand and move her items into each other room at a time. Its just a shame cos its going to mean she wont neccessarily get to interact with the other dogs as much as id like at first- but I gotta do what I gotta do :)

As long as she's not a beagle...

We rescued one from a sanctuary in UT who was NOT very well housebroken... tried the crate thing, the whole nine yards. He didn't care. Just made more work for me because I had to bathe him all the time.

Decided to give up. Now I just put the 'adult' pads down in the laundry room... he uses the area where the pads are (doesn't always wind up ON the pads)... even if the door is open to the backyard or him to come and go at his leisure....

Oh well. He's worth the trouble.

8-30-05 Met David at a restaurant in Germany

3-28-06 David 'officially' proposed

4-26-06 I-129F mailed

9-25-06 Interview: APPROVED!

10-16-06 Flt to US, POE Detroit

11-5-06 Married

7-2-07 Green card received

9-12-08 Filed for divorce

12-5-08 Court hearing - divorce final

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

No shes not a beagle :P Shes an Affenpinscher

Oh dear, well I guess there are always just some dogs who will never get it. Was he an adult when you adopted him? I was just reading about how some people unwittingly teach there dogs to go inside rather than out!! One of the ways was when people try to punish their dog when it goes inside-like by pushing their noses in it :( But it can have the opposite effect. Maybe your pooch had experienced this with previos owners?

The way I have always done it with my dogs is this.. First crate training.. The area in their crate should be only big enough for them to turn around.. Dogs do not want to go to the bathroom where they sleep (just like anyone else) So it makes them hold it .. but of course you cant make them hold it forever.. so after a couple hours take your dog outside.. if they do not pee right away take them back inside and back in the crate.. leave them 15 minutes then do the same.. you need to make them know "ohh outside.. I better pee or I can't stay out.. " After that I tought my dog to paw the door (took a while) when we were going outside so now when they want to go outside (to pee first) they will paw the door.. its alot of work.. but remember if they go in the house you need some good cleaners.. natural ones are the best to mask the odor from their urine or else they will continue to go in the same place.

I'm happy to hear you rescued your little Beag. They are the merriest little breed .

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

what I did to train diamee was..

you have to decide you want her pee pee outside? or paper train? decide and stick with it.

1.. get those pet nappies.. they have this really horrible smell < to the dog > makes them rember to tee tee on there.

2.. pay attention to your dog. if she is sniffing around- she is gonna pee..so either take her outside or place her on the nappy. let her tee tee or pay her duties. - when she is done make it a big deal and say things like " good girl "and offer her a treat. I would say to diamee " yayyyy your a good boy. wowwow look at diamee" he would get really happy.

3.. when she pee pee on the floor. tell her NOOOOOO. then take her to the nappy let her sit on it for a few mins. this will make her soon realize she is not part of " the pack"

pretty soon she

4.. make it a point to ask her. " gotta tee tee"? < or whatever way you wanna address it >

pretty soon she will come to you when she has to tee tee or pay her duties.
