Happy Canada day to everyone!!

As it is my last day in Canada before I make the big move I plan on doing as many Canadian things as I possibly can do!!!

Make sure you all go see your local fireworks on the 4th! That'll cheer you up from missing Canada Day in Canada ;)

Also, I made these maple cookies for my husband to take to work with him today. lol

But they weren't mapley enough, so I found that one of the comments had a recipe for a maple glaze to go on top, and it was awesome

Maple Glaze:

2 cups powdered sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup maple syrup

about 1/2 teaspoon - 1 teaspoon milk (enough to make the glaze spreadable)

I also added about a 1/2 teaspoon of maple extract (or 'imitation maple flavouring'... lol) to both the cookies and the glaze. :)

Happy Canada Day!!! This is my first away from my country too! :( ...and I'm really missing home. I agree with the statement, you don't know what you've got till it's gone!

We're going to have some friends over Friday night for burgers and such to celebrate July 1st AND 4th. I have to make a home made flag as I never thought to buy one before leaving! LOL...I'm really wishing I was Japanese now...that flag would be a little easier to do....

Oh yes!! I grew up on Vancouver Island, so I was surround by beaches almost where ever I looked! *And mountains* I now live 100 miles inland..no beach, no mountains :( I take it you're kinda the same way?

We're going to Myrtle Beach on the 4th, so I think that will help. Tim says there are LOTS of fireworks that day. This Sunday also marks the 6th year since my late husband died, (it was on Sunday back then too) so being at the beach with Tim is going to be a BIG help in getting me through that day.

Enjoy your time on the 4th.

Happy Canada Day everyone, we had a little mini party to celebrate. I made nanaimo bars, poutine, butter tarts and the kids wanted me to make pies banana cream and coconut cream. We had sparklers and a few little other thingy's that whistle and shout sparks out too.

Hey all.

Just wanted to say, Spailenes, her husband and I had a BLAST at the Canada Day celebration in Washington D.C. we had burgers, beer and saw some music and rubbed elbows with some fellow Canadians. We then went to a pub and had a pretty mediocre poutine but we had boatloads of fun.

We also got interviewed by CTV News!!! My sister who lives in Prince George, B.C. saw it and sent me a hilarious Facebook message. She also PVRed it.

I don't think I want to see it. I think I rambled about how awesome Canada is and how we're nto American's hat!

:} Stupid beer.

Happy Canada Day everyone, we had a little mini party to celebrate. I made nanaimo bars, poutine, butter tarts and the kids wanted me to make pies banana cream and coconut cream. We had sparklers and a few little other thingy's that whistle and shout sparks out too.

ummm...I'm sure someone has answered this somewhere before...but what kind of cheese do you use for poutine? I'd love to make some. I'm sure I could muddle through.

I haven't done the butter tarts thing yet, I probably will for American Thanksgiving, (we'll be away for the Canadian one)but the Nanaimo Bars are always a hit around here!

*Funny how I never thought to make any for our BBQ tonight....:lol:*

ummm...I'm sure someone has answered this somewhere before...but what kind of cheese do you use for poutine? I'd love to make some. I'm sure I could muddle through.

We just found a decent mozza cheese and a beef gravy that's not too bad it works till we stock up on poutine sauce and this time I'm bringing back cheese curds too
