Shipping from Europe to America

Hi all!

I was wondering how most of you went about shipping your belongings to the US when you moved?

Such as household items, clothes, electronics, maybe even furniture?

I own a lot of clothes. A LOT. >_>

I really don't want to leave any of my clothes behind, so I was thinking about packing the items I can not bring with me in my suitcases, in a container and shipping it by sea. I would also include some household items, not a lot and nothing heavy, and possibly a few electronics (PC monitor, Xbox etc)

I would love to have some tips of people from Europe, maybe even Scandinavia, who have gone through this, and maybe have some hints?

How much does it cost?

Other things I should keep in mind? (Other than voltage, regional restrictions etc.)

I am shipping via air using DHL 7 suitcases ranging in weight from about 15kg to 30kg and it cost me £511.

Funny enough I am waiting in at the moment for them to collect! It should take 4 days to arrive.

My fiancee packed an extra suitcase and left clothes behind on each of her three visits. She'll end up paying for two extra suitcases on her flight over. I don't know if that helps, but if you plan on visiting, you might consider bringing some to leave behind.
