Hi everyone,

I have a question according to the driver license in California. But first shortly a few words about my situation:

1) I applied for the DL in early October 2009 at the Californian DMV office with my EAD (Employment Authorization Card), because I didn't have my Green Card back then yet.

2) I passed the written test and got the permit that had the expiration date the same as EAD (2010.08.31).

3) A few days after getting the permit I had an appointment and got my Green Card (it is valid until 2011.10.13, but I didn't show it at DMV after getting it, because already had my permit to learn).

4) I took and passed the behind-the-wheel driving exam on 2010.06.21 and just today I got my DL with the expiration date the same as EAD (2010.08.31).

I know I have to renew it by showing DMV my Green Card and pay a fee, but my question is: will I have to take the written exam again even if I just got the DL? Will they take a picture of me again, check my vision, etc.?

Thanks for all the answers.

It varies from state to state, you might have to go upto DMV and show them proof that your in the country legally. This was not the case earlier, they just used to issue you a DL with like 10 yrs or so irrespective of your status.

For renewal in TX you can even do it online and so no eye test or anything is required.

And no you will not have to take any test no written nor driving test, all you have to do is fill the form, take the eye test and a new pic and ya give them the check.

Thats it.
