Hey everyone:)

i was wondering, with the documents that go with the Ds-230,like the birth cerfiticate & marriage certificate, they need originals?...aren't they like the USCIS and could lose the things we send,so we shouldn't send originals?so why originals?and if we're suppsoed to give them the original marriage papers, what are we supposed to take to the interview with us?...

Thank you all:)

They want original documents. These will be forwarded to your respective consulate for the interview; at that time, all originals will be returned to you. For the interview, you should take photocopies of all documents your submitted for your case. Good luck!

oh. yup. originals.

maybe time to review the DS-230 stuff from state.gov ?

DS-230 - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3190.html (read all 7 pages, please )

I-864 - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3730.html

General NVC stuff - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_1335.html

Currently, is ORIGINAL PLUS 1 REGULAR PHOTOCOPY.

If not an original, then must be certified copy, with certification coming from the original issuing entity.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

We also had concern about submitting originals (we all know our government).

It cost us $$ and even a bit of time but we submitted cerified copies of everything.....as is pointed out in the link Darnell gives for the DS-230 on page 4:

Original Document Requirements

The applicant and each family member who will accompany the applicant to the United States will need to submit original documents or certified copies of the documents listed in this section from an appropriate authority (the issuing entity).

As Darnell indicates, certified copies ARE NOT notarized copies or simple photocopies.

They are copies certified by the original issuing entity to be a true and accurate copy of the original (almost always have raised stamping on them).

It will cost for these....but we did not want to chance of losing the original!
