The specific economic events that took place during the Great Depression have been studied thoroughly: a deflation in asset and commodity prices, dramatic drops in demand and credit, and disruption of trade, ultimately resulting in widespread unemployment and hence poverty.

The government continues to throw good money after bad in an effort to hold off the inevitable.

If they had not intervened perhaps things would have been worse (for a shorter time)

but things would have got better a lot sooner.

I think the market will continue to move lower over a period of years and many many false booms (like the one we had in the past year)

will ultimately fizzle out as the broader market heads lower because people will have stopped trusting banks and other financial

institutions like the big brokers who played both sides of the game while advising clients to buy stuff that they wanted to unload.
