My fiancee got approved for his K-1 visa and we are now married and living together in America. We've just started the process of applying for that dreaded next set of paperwork that keeps him in the United States. We've found that there's 3 forms to file, residency, permission to work and an affidavit of support. Just to make others aware who haven't reached this step yet, the 3 forms collectively can run you from $1080 - $1445, depending on how you file them, in fees.

Azura, what exactly are you talking about?

Do you mean the I-485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, I-765 Application for Employment Authorization and I-864 Affidavit of Support??

Those are $1010 and that is it. You do not need to pay for the EAD once you pay the fee for AOS - and the affidavit does not cost you anything - at least for K-1s...

Am I missing something??

You mean 3 applications, not 3 forms, and the total cost should be $1010.\

Apparently the fees depend on whether or not you apply for them all at the same time or individually. If you dont do them all at once you can end up paying individual fees per application.

Not necessarily. You can send I-485 first and pay the 1010 fees, then when you receive the notice of action, you can send the other applications with a copy of the I-485 NOA without paying any fees.

It clearly states in the instructions:

NOTE: If you filed Form 1-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, as of July 30, 2007, no fee is required to also file a request for employment authorization on Form 1-765. You may file the 1-765 concurrently with your 1-485, or you may submit the 1-765 at a later date. If you file Form 1-765 separately, you must also submit a copy of your Form I-797C, Notice of Action, receipt as evidence of the filing of Form 1-485 as of July 30, 2007.

NOTE: If you filed Form 1-485 on or after July 30. 2007. and you paid the 1-485 application fee required, then no fee is

required to file a request for Advance Parole or for a Refugee Travel Document on Form 1-131. You may file Form 1-131 for advance parole or for a Refugee Travel Document concurrently with your Form 1-485, or you may submit Form 1-131 for advance parole or a Refugee Travel Document at a later date. If you file Form 1-131 for advance parole or a refugee travel document separately, you must also submit a copy of your Form 1-797, Notice of Action, receipt as evidence that you filed and paid the fee for Form 1-485 required on or after July 30. 2007.
