I have read that once the I-129f is filed that we should not travel back and forth to visit. Is this true? They are saying that the might not let you travel because you have "intent" to stay in the country. I am Canadian and my fiance is in the US. Every time I travel to the US they question me as to where I am going, who I am going to see, etc. I have always said that I was going to see friends. Now that we are filing for the K1 visa I would have to say that I am going to see my fiance. If I have a copy of all the paperwork with me will I be able to go visit? Thanks for any answers and suggestions.

It is up to the CBP officer that day, so it's not a 100% certainty you'll be able to get in on any given visit. Showing proof of ties to Canada (employment verification letter, housing lease) and bringing your K-1 paperwork to show you're going through the process legally work in your favour. Being confident and matter-of-fact in your answers to their questions helps, too.

To help with the confidence part.. my fiance crossed in his car, said he was visiting his fiancee, and got through in 5 minutes with no hassle. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/252569-questions-asked-when-crossing-border-for-visit-after-i-129f-filed/

Best of luck to you! :)

Hi JeannieL,

I think a lot of people have this same question, so you're definitely not a lone, there's even a whole discussion about it which can be found here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/67796-yes-you-can-visit/

There's a lot of input from Canadian citizens there which should probably help you. The discussion was originally started ages ago but all the information should still be very relevant and to be honest, I'm not sure why this isn't pinned somewhere. It should be!

Hope that helps, and good luck on your journey!

Is it possible that he could visit you during the wait instead? I can't imagine that Canada would care as he has no impending immigration case there.

And, as the others have said, it's totally up to the CBP officer. Whatever you do, be straightforward with them because you don't want any immigration issues later on down the line.

FYI, there have been time that I wasn't sure the CBP officer would let me in - and I'm a US Citizen!
