Hi everybody, I don't know where to start from about my journey. I am going to be brief as possible. My fiance is a nigerian resident in Ghana. We had our first interview in Ghana April 12th. I traveled to Ghana for the interview. At the interview, the consular was very nice, we talked about Houston weather. He said everything about our relationship is okay but he is not use to seeing Nigeria birth certificate. He gave us appointment to come back in two weeks (26th april) so he can get in touch with the Nigeria consulate about my fiance court sworn birth certificate.

On the second interview, it was somebody else that attended to us. She was very rude, she said she will not issue the visa from their office because they not familiar with Nigeria document, and will send out petition back to U.S. I started crying than she said the only thing she can do is to send out petition to Nigeria. I agreed and left for u.s 3 day later. We got e-mail from lagos that our interview been set for 6/28/2010, and to redo medical and police report.

My fiance was refused today on the grand that we've been dating for 6 years without marriage. the consulate said " why you not married after dating for 6 years? this relationship is not fake, i am refusing you the visa and sending your case back to u.s" We had every proof ( relationship and engagement pictures, telephone record, bank transfers, letters, e-mails) but she didn't want to see any our prove. i contacted my senator when I first returned from Ghana but she said fiance issue is not her priority.

I don't know what to do! I have cried my eyes swollen, I am so depressed, I can't eat, o my God i am ............

What a horrible senator! I hope you will remember the level of service you received come election time. Every state has 2 senators. Consider giving your OTHER one a call ASAP. Your goal is to try to get your case to remain at the consulate for another go. Something in your case may have ruffled the CO's feathers. With any luck, you can get another chance to have your file re-examined.

Godspeed!

did you file though California or Vermont ? It makes a difference on what will probably happen next. Lagos is crazy, did you have the Asian lady ? Rarely will they keep a petition at the consulate , many times they will lie and say it has already been sent back. We had the same issue of being refused because he couldn't describe my classified work even with over 5 inches of phone records . Because we filed through California and they expire K1's we had to file again. Persistence pays off

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Im so sorry for you guys, we had a similar problem and with a lot of prayer and calling we were blessed. I suggest calling the lagos consulate and speaking to a head CO. Im not sure if it will help but it couldnt hurt. Keep talking to your senators, mine didnt help me but sometimes you get one good one. Ill pray for you guys. Be blessed

I'm so sorry, Fran6. I know what you're going through because we were also denied our K1 visa (based on their misinterpretation of my words). Unfortunately, even with a famous immigration attorney's help, we couldn't get it overturned in Lagos and it was sent back to the States.

We ended up getting married and now I have an I-130 petition in progress.

It's very unfair and very frustrating, to be sure.

The only solid advice I can give you is to give it your ALL now and hope for the best. Failing that, consider getting married to address their reason for denying the K1.

Above all, DO NOT give up! You've lasted 6 years together so far....even if it takes longer than you expected, it WILL happen!

All my best and God bless.
