Ouch, that's expensive. Ours were only $7 per copy (it was the marriage license that was expensive -- like $50?)

09-02-2005 Applications for AOS, EAD, and AP received by MSC

10-21-2005 AOS fingerprint notice for 12-08-2005

11-07-2005 AP approved

12-05-2005 Infopass appt at San Jose office for interim EAD -- Refused, because it is already approved by MSC on 11-07-2005

12-07-2005 Attempt at interim EAD at San Francisco office -- no go. Back to San Jose, where CSO (chief station officer) tells they will contact MSC via email to request permission to issue interim EAD

12-08-2005 Biometrics for AOS and EAD. Having no EAD appt letter was no problem (used EAD NOA)

12-15-2005 EAD arrived in the mail

12-24-2005 Received interview letter; interview scheduled 03-01-2006

01-28-2006 Received replacement SSN card in married name (5 wks since application)

We had to get an "Apostilled" Marriage Cetificate, as they would not accept the one issued by the County Clerks office, even that it was "notarized".

I had to go to the "Secretary of State" office to get it. You take the one issued by the County Clerk, and they issue you one that is "certified" by the state you got married in. It will have a gold stamp on it. This is required if you got married in the U.S. and your Spouse is in another country. It only cost like 3 bucks.

Well, ive got 2 documents

One says "MARRIAGE LICENCE, STATE OF TN, COUNTY OF SHELBY" on it...It is signed by the county clerk, and then the same day, signed by the judge.

The second paper says "Certified copy of marriage licence, state of Tn, County of Shelby", where it was also signed by the clerk and the judge...

Both documents have the SHELBY COUNTY seal on it.

So are these okay, and do we make a photocopy of the SECOND document i just stated to give to the immigration officer during interview?

you only need to show/give USCIS the "CERTIFIED" document.

I don't know if the procedure on registering marriages differ from state to state, county to county. I think, though, that the USCIS wants proof that the marriage is already registered in the county office that is supposed to keep a data base of marriages. In my county it is the Register of Deeds that keeps a record of all marriages/divorces/births/deaths. As such, they were the ones who sent us the "green" certified marriage certificate. This was our record showing that our marriage is already entered into the Register of Deeds and is now part of public record.
