I'm a high school teacher and there are days I go home and literally collapse and wish I had a different job, but when I seriously considered changing it, I realize that I actually love what I do. And if I have any remaining doubts the thank you notes at the end of the year make everything worthwhile. So I guess I have a career.

AOS Timeline

5/14/10 - Biometrics taken. (Day 31)

5/29/10 - Interview letter received 6/30 at 10:30 (Day 46)

6/30/10 - Interview: 10:30 (Day 77) APPROVED!!!

6/30/10 - EAD received in the mail

Both

A job and a carreer but being in the high tech, don't know how long it will last so almost put

JOB

As we are getting into more and more outsourcing i don't see how you can stop that train,

at the design stage itself, they are letting you know to DESIGN FOR OUTSOURCING. We always had a

Roller Coaster in the Semicon industry, when business is Booming you hire people, when things

slow down you lay off folks and the cycle continue, but that Cycle is now broken

Those people who got laid off won't come back because their Job has been outsourced, move to

Low Cost region, whatever BS name they try to give it.

When the upswing starts now Asia is going to manufacture the product, Asia will need to hire more people

and you wonder why that unemployment keep dragging.

Gone but not Forgotten!

So? You can still work in IT post-outsourcing. You just can't be some lameass sysadmin anymore, nor can you sit around a cold data center staring at screens. Gain new skills, learn to manage vendors, projects, develop your interpersonal skills and your writing. You'll be fine.

I gave up work for lent, one year, never looked back.

(Seriously - I don't work as W-2 employee, this century)

Now, I manage areas that I'm passionate about, make monies and very happy.

I put more time in my endeavors than I ever have as anyone's employee, but I'm quite happy to own the IP, and quite happy with the various results, various revenue streams. My attornies are quite happy with their careers, though - does that count ?

Ya Chris ! You Rock !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

i gotta job, i think. i could get another doing the same thing in the same city w/ multiple companies by making a phone call. i could also do the same in any city in the US or Canada & most likely any other developed country. so, do i have a job or a career?

depends on how literally you mean "doing the same thing".

exactly if i wanted. i'm highly adaptable if needed or wanted. i have a pretty unique combination of blue/white collar skills relating to my field. i've been in this field for two decades, so i've picked up some valuable skills & experience.
