It is clean. It doesn't emit any green house gasses. The only by-product is nuclear waste which has far less harmful to the environment when stored properly until half-life.

On this we can agree. Want to reduce CO2? Hav an all out effort to convert coal powered plants to nuke, geo thermal, wave and wind. Use the power to make electricity and massive amounts of hydrogen. Convert cars to run on H2. Now that would work. Cap and tax is a joke on us. It will only create more taxes for the government and do nothing to solve the problem.

The first moderate accident in a nuclear power cycle, whether at a reactor or at waste storage, will make the BP spill look like a minor, transitory nuisance. It will probably happen somewhere -- hope that place is far from the USA or anyplace any of us care about!

The biggest problem with nuclear power is that accidents will happen, because they always do. And the consequences may be immeasurably severe. Other than that, I'm all for it.

If nuclear energy is clean, so is deep-water offshore oil drilling (i.e. until the first accident).

Ask the residents of Chernobyl what they think of nuclear energy.

Ask yourself if you want a nuclear power plant built next to your house.

Those who claim that nuclear power is safe need to explain Chernobyl. Here in the States, we came very close to a similar disaster at Three Mile Island but got very, very lucky.

If you want energy security, you need to develop energy sources whose first big accident will not be a catastrophe. Nuclear power doesn't make the grade. Neither does deep water drilling.

And those who naively claim all one needs to do is wait "until half life (sic)" need to learn a bit about what they speak. One needs to wait not one but 10-20 half-lives before fission waste becomes reasonably safe -- try 200,000 years for some of the nastier nucleides.

Our only goal should be energy independence. If it takes coal-fired plants and electric cars to achieve it, so be it.
