Anyone see this story on the national nightly news?

I didn't catch which county it was but it's in CA. Basically, due to the economic crisis they have had to close down [let alone downsize] their entire police force.

To be honest, I didn't catch the name of the county as I was too busy cursing at the TV thinking about the illegal alien advocating fuckwits in that damn state.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

John Galt got the city right. Its not the Onion, its real life in here in the depression.

Senate Republicans blocked an extension of unemployment benefits for the long-term unemployed that also would have extended additional help to state and local governments. Without that support, we'll see more of this sort of thing in depressed parts of the country.

Its fiscal conservatism at its wisest!

It looks like it was due to abuse and corruption according to the article.

At a council meeting Monday night, city leaders said they were forced to dismantle the Police Department and lay off city workers because they lost insurance coverage as a result of excessive police claims filed against the department. They also blamed years of financial abuse and corruption from the previous council.

If Maywood is anything like upstate New York, this doesn't sound like a bad thing. We have so many overlapping jurisdictions and small counties it's ridiculous. I live in a town of a couple thousand people where nothing ever happens. Yet the police are running around with their sirens constantly. Our county has the second highest property taxes in the nation (first place is taken by a neighboring country).

Effectively they are dissolving this jurisdiction in Maywood and merging with nearby jurisdictions to reduce overhead. It certainly is fiscal conservatism at it's wisest.

Yes it sounds like a headline grabber more than anything - because the idea of a police force being abolished conjures up images of lawlessness and crime sprees - the truth is probably much more mundane.

You mean there won't be rowdy groups of Messikan men burning up the homes of hard working white men and raping their pretty little women?

But the gun control crowd claims if you need a cop they will be in the area within a few minutes. So no need to own a gun for protection. This blows that theory out of the water.

As per usual BY postings, zero facts and loads of racist conjecture. I think I shall bookmark this thread just to link it to you every time you try to say that you post substantive threads.
