Hi Every one,

I recently got my GC and now i want to bring my wife to US. The Priority dates are current. I spoke with a lawyer in NY and he told me that there is a way we can petition for my wife other then filling for I-131. Please guide me if that's correct?

Well, that's a bit wrong answer.

Legal Permanent Residents CAN petition their spouse and children but there is a waiting time involved. I believe currently it's around 2 years time. OP, file the I-130 petition and be prepared for waiting some months.

Thanks for the input, but i think once you become a Permanent Resident, you can apply for your spouse. The waiting time is a blt longer, but you can definetly sponser.

Thanks a bunch for your reply. Does the wait time depends upon the avialability of the Visa Numbers? Also do i have to apply for my wife's I-130 here in the US or she has to apply from Pak? Also i have to fill up a form for the Affidavit of Support too right?

To get things started you file I-130 and G325a - one for you and one for your wife. There's a good overview in the guides section on LPR bringing spouse to the US. Yes, the wait time depends on the movement of the visa bulletin and availability of visas but that seems to speed up these days. Affidavit of support will come into play later, when the visa number is available, so don't worry about it right now.
