The Border Patrol calls them OTM, Other Than Mexican. They come from places like Iran, iraq, Pakistan, using Mexico as a staging area to cross illegally into the US. I don't think their intent is to mow your lawn, clean rooms or buy stop and robs.

Looks like our enemies overseas are taking a page from Willie Keeler's book and starting to hit 'em where they ain't. Yes, yes, I know, being Afghani doesn't make you a terrorist threat anymore than being in the NRA makes you another Tim Mcveigh, but finding martyrdom patches and Hezbollah members in the Sonora desert should give us all reason to worry.

If the Department of Homeland Security is truly committed to securing the homeland, they need to shore up the exposed southern flank of the United States, and fast.

It would be easy for terrorists to cross the border as many mexicans and from other countries do, they just need to get a visa to go to Mexico, that is it. It is so dangerous....Airport controls are tough, but the back doors are open. They only need 5.000 $us (they have plenty of money) to get a "coyote" and they are in USA in 2 days. "Innocents pay for sinners"

Are people really just hearing about this for the first time?

A lot of those from Iraq, Afghanistan, and Africa come to the US to seek asylum. The former preferred method of entry was by using fraudulent documents, but it's very difficult. Nowadays, people are taking traditional illegal crossing routes through central america in order to seek political asylum in the US. Some use coyotes to cross whereas others present themselves at the border and say they are afraid to return home.

The difficulty in coming through airports is not that controls are tough because all you have to say is that you're afraid to go home and you're free to come in. The difficulty is actually getting to a POE in the US bc of document verification by airlines and customs in other countries.

But you can't mention of securing the border in any context other than illegal immigration to this administration. Because securing an amnesty to the 12-20 million illegal immigrants is way more important than stopping potential terrorists getting into this country.
