America's Best Hot Dog...

WHAT??? A Chim, after reading this article. I am thinking about open a Dog in Little Saigon. But, your statement saying California just don't know good hot dogs.

Please give me your input. What ALL YA think if I am planning to open An England Hotdog in Little Saigon. Most Viet getting SICKS of PHO, BUN BO HUE, COM TAM, and Viet's food.

Mr. Loi,

Open up a seafood restaurant in little saigon. Those type of places always make a lot of money. Look at boiling crab, you open up a place where all the men can "nhau" and you can make a lot of money selling alcohol along with seafood. If you make it a nhau place you can make more money on the beer and alcohol than on the seafood. That will beat all the pho restaurants at every corner.

Loi brought up a good point.. how would A hotdog shop go over in a VN neighborhood in Houston or OC? I can see them selling well in VN, but with different toppings...

We went to the county fair yesterday. We had a variety of ethnic foods to choose from, including some generic Asian stuff. Me and my step son went for the teriyaki chicken rice bowl. My step daughter didn't want anything to do with the Asian food. She and my daughter opted for hot dogs.

It's kind of crazy, but we've tried just about every VN restaurant within 20 miles of my home (which would be two or three dozen joints). My wife and her kids don't like ANY of them. There is one VN restaurant in San Jose that they think is pretty good, and it's run by Chinese people. The rest they think suck. Given a choice between Sizzler and any pho joint in town, they'll take Sizzler hands down. I've tried to pin them down on the reason for this, and the best they can offer is that they think the food doesn't taste good. My step daughter suggested that maybe it was because pretty much all of the restaurants make VN food "Saigon style", and people from central VN have a completely different way of cooking. This makes sense, since they didn't like the food at most of the restaurants in Saigon either.

Interestingly, there is an Asian buffet restaurant here in town that they LOVE. A variety of boiled and fried seafood, a few different kinds of noodles, steamed and fried rice, an occasional specific ethnic dish like General Tso's chicken or Mongolian beef, etc. There is also a Hometown buffet in town that makes a variety of western style foods which they seem to like equally well. Go figure! :hehe:

I wish there was a place locally that I could go out and get a good rice dish... all of the restaurants around here use the crappy rice... no taste...

If the New England Hot Dog Co wasnt related to a VN VJ Member I wouldnt have started it here...

I still do not see how talking about hotdogs on a immigration forum that is specifically for Vietnam is relevant in any way shape or form, regardless if the "New England Hot Dog Co" is related to a VN VJ member or not, that IS what OFF TOPIC is for. I don't really care that it is in this forum or I would have just went to an admin and had it moved, but that is one of your duties Scott, is to move topics to related forums. If the topic had been "How would the New England Hot Dogs would sell in Vietnam" or something relevant to something in Vietnam I would not have any problem with it, after all I started a topic, "Favorite Vietnamese food" in the old forum for sout east Asia, but again it was specifically about Vietnamese food, not an American dish. If we simply put anything that has to do with a VN VJ member in this forum, then we can talk about favorite dog breeds as I am an avid dog lover, or how about favorite facebook games since I have worked with Zinga in the past and have had my hand in making a few of their games, or better yet why don't we start posting things about restoration of old cars, as I know you like to do such things, and I also like to talk about that as well. As a long standing VN VJ member, I am sure you can see what the point is that I am making, if new members come to this forum and see that members such as you and I place such topics in this specific forum then they could do the same, and in theory if every member simply posted one topic that was truly "OFF TOPIC" such as your topic that our forum would be flooded, and people would have to sift through all the BS to find the topics that truly matter to them, after all they come to VJ for advice on Immigration, and then they come to the VN forum for advice on dealing with the HCMC consulate on IMMIGRATION topics, not about Hot Dog Companys in New England, or about Dogs, or restoration of older cars, or favorite facebook video games, so please once again what is the TRUE relevance of this topic in this forum? I know there are haters out there that will jump in on this topic, and the reality of this is not whether or not Linda, Lucky, Dai, or any others "DON"T MIND" having this topic in this forum because I really don't care either, but where do we draw the line??? The only good thing is that finially people are talking about issues that I can see relate to Vietnam, specifically how Jims wife and children dont like the Vietnamese places, but this is getting a bit off topic from your New England Hot Dogs. Special Rules

Topics in the Regional Forums area can contain the following (without being moved):

--o General discussion on issues relating to that relevant region

--o Immigration Discussion of topics specific to that region (ex: special embassy procedures, help on finding local doctors, etc)

--o Off Topic Discussion intended to be of interest to the specific regional forum participants (cultural discussion, local food, travel, etc)

Know what you are talking about before you try to control what we discuss here... been down this road before with you and not going there again... if you dont like what we discuss here in this specific topic.. ignore it... nobody is forcing you to post to this topic or read it for that matter... stirring up ####### and provoking confrontation as you are so inclined to do, causes more people to avoid the forums than anything else... let it go and let us enjoy being able to talk about what we want to talk about...

And if someone posted saying they dont want to hear about this in the VN forum.. would you say the same thing?

To the VN forum police maybe it should have been moved but in my defense I am married to a VN babe and wanted to share with the many people that I have met here on this very forum to show her progression.

Were you equally offended by the 3 week long exchange about basketball in the "Lakers v Celtics" thread? Or questions about The Big Grill?

Looking around VJ one will see that Regional forums do have threads that are more for the enjoyment of the forum members and may not pertain to an immigration issue.

Ugh. Sounds horrid and never even knew they had hot dogs in VN. At the Rodeo I got my wife a corn dog and where they had the place to get the mustard or ketchup to put on it I saw they had mayo also and she put Mayo on a corn dog. Barbarian.

It did suck indeed. I was very interested in replying about the bad pho places and how the wife and kids liked the Chinese place as mine likes the Chinese buffet place too a lot. It was a good topic and fit right in here I feel.
