There's a small family owned chain here in the East Bay called Kasper's. They're not world class, but they probably have the best dogs in the area. Their polish dogs are pretty satisfying. Sad to say, but the best dogs are on the east coast. Californians just don't know good hot dogs, as the article makes pretty clear. I don't doubt that stuffing a sausage shell with bacon and other stuff, and covering it with kim chi and pork rinds is probably an interesting meal, but how the hell can they call THAT a hot dog???

WHAT??? A Chim, after reading this article. I am thinking about open a Dog in Little Saigon. But, your statement saying California just don't know good hot dogs.

Please give me your input. What ALL YA think if I am planning to open An England Hotdog in Little Saigon. Most Viet getting SICKS of PHO, BUN BO HUE, COM TAM, and Viet's food.

The best hot dog I have had so far was in Las Vegas at the Mermaid's Casino on Freemont street... it was a Nathan's hot dog served on a poppy seed bun.. YUM!

We have a small local chain called Coney Island and they have pretty good hot dogs but over all a place I go to in Chicago when I get there has the best. Can't recall the name right off hand.

I have to second on trying that fried baloney sandwich. Sounded not too tasty to me when I saw it but a friend I know ordered me one and now I always get one when able.

Also wanted to add that Nathans has a pretty good hot dog. I usually only go for chili cheese dogs though so they need to have pretty good chili cheese. In Ohio they have a pretty well known chain and I went and tried it but the chili ruined it. Never could stand chili on a hot dog that was also sweet tasting. It is the same with the famous kansas city bar be que. It is pretty good bar be que but too sweet for my tastes to earn a higher rating than what I am used to in the south. A friend of mine from Kansas city feels the same about ours down south. He is used to and grew up with the sweeter tasting bar be que and prefers it. He may be the biggest chow hound at my bar be que but doesn't stop him from mentioning his kansas city bar be que.

Loi brought up a good point.. how would A hotdog shop go over in a VN neighborhood in Houston or OC? I can see them selling well in VN, but with different toppings...
