Help with understanding K-1 processing times

Hello my name is Steve and I am using my fiancée account. She heard about this site first and set it up for us. We are new to all this. Our question is that when you look on the Vermont processing times for K-1 fiancée visa it says five months, so what does the five months really mean? Is that the time till she receives her interview or is that to receive packet 2? We received our notice that they had our packet 1 info on March 19, 2010 and it was last updated on March 24, 2010. We waited 90 days and have not received any word that they need more info or anything to that effect. I called the Vermont service center June 16, 2010 and they gave me a case # and I followed up with an email 4 days later. I received and email stating that I should hear something back about the phone call within 30 days, which I received a another email about the phone call on June 25, 2010 saying that we should have an answer within 60 days.

I am a USA citizen and my fiancée is a Chinese citizen that has been a resident of the United Arab Emirates for 10 year now. She currently still lives and works in Dubai.

Thank you for any help on this subject matter.

It's 5 months from the moment you sent the petition until it's approved, but that's just on the website, because in most of the cases they approve the petition faster. This website has its real processing times according to other petitioners. USCIS says, if your application remains pending beyond their normal processing times(those on the USCIS website), you should call their national customer service center at 1-800-375-5283. The standard processing time is 5 months for Vermont, because I'm guessing not anyone in the USA or in the foreign fiance(e)'s country knows about VisaJourney. Not knowing, means probably a RFE because they don't know exactly what to send along with their petition. A RFE slows down the process, so that's why they calculate the average processing times. It's like when you have some numbers and you calculate their arithmetic median. Good luck!

So are you saying that from the date that we first aplied till the day that she should receive her interview is 5 months. We were sent all the information that they requested for the application to start the process. Thank you very much for the reply.

No No. 5 to 6 months on I-129F petition (PETITION) approval.

Then another month to get the petition from USCIS to NVC to UAE.

and then 4 to 11 weeks more, for K-1 visa application processing, before any interview date.

Good Luck !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

What I meant is that some cases take longer to be processed. It depends of who sees it. Anyway, in most of the cases I've seen 3 or 4 months(sometimes) at USCIS, some weeks at NVC and then another month or two until the day of the interview. The entire process, including USCIS, NVC and foreign US Consulate Interview takes about 5-6 months. The USCIS part takes, let's say, 3 months and the rest of the process until the interview takes almost 2 months. I have some friends who went through the same process for a K1 and they only waited 5 or 6 months until they had their visa in hand. I hope I'm being useful. My sources are trustworthy! Good luck

Processing times on the USCIS website are just... average. It won't take 5-6 months for a petition to be processed in all cases. In most of the cases, there are 2-3 months between NOA1 and NOA2. For those petitions that remain pending beyond their normal processing times(USCIS.gov), it's better to contact them using the phone number given above.
