12 Hour Layover => British Airways at Heathrow

If she were going to get anything at all because of the long layover it would be up to the airline to provide it, not the airport. Have you checked with them?

I think this may be the key; will do ASAP. I don't expect much as this is a planned stopover, not an unplanned one.

You describe two very different scenarios.... even a 36 hour planned layover gets you nothing... I know....

I know they're different (planned vs. unplanned) - that's why you're probably right, but I will check with

the airline if that's possible.

At least she's prepared for the worst; today one of my co-workers

said Heathrow is huge and a travelers' nightmare.

She'll be arriving around 10:40 AM July 29 at terminal 5

and departing around 10 PM for BKK from terminal 3

On the return trip there's only a 2 hour stopover. Friends from

Africa have also reported long stopovers in the UK.

She'll be on British Airways. She said she wanted to take toothpaste & toothbrush in carry-on

but I'm guessing BA will have them complimentary in the heads, as I found with United, Thai Airways

and Emirates.

She got absolutely NO amenities when she came here on China Airways, so she wants to take

toothpaste. I said they may confiscate it at the luggage inspection and wouldn't be surprised if they did.

what terminal will she be in? if she is flying BA, terminal 5 is great. You can sometimes get one day passes for the lounge, depending on the airline - I might check into that, it will probably be worth the extra $50 or so

5 on arrival and 3 on departure.

Hi there

I used to work at Heathrow, for British Airways before I moved here to the states. So, if she is arriving at terminal 5, but leaving from 3, she wont be allowed into Terminal 5. However, there are no lounges there anyway for economy passengers, as its only British Airways there.

I would make sure, if she can, to get a transit visa, to allow her to leave the airport if she wants to. But she will just get on the transfer bus to Terminal 3, where they do have the lounges, which anyone can pay to get into. Go to www.prioritypass.com and join, before she leaves. That way she can go straight there. I think there is a Servisair one there too. Have a quick search for the lounges in Terminal 3 anyway and get it sorted now. That way she can make the most of it when she arrives and maybe get a few zzzzzzzz's!

Hope this helps, if you need any more help, let me know. I was there far too long!

Thanks for the info.

She just stuck it out in the general waiting area, but she will have only about

2 hours between flights on the return trip. I don't know why London has such

long layovers on the way over but it must have something to do with the

general scheduling.

Cheers.

Why on earth would anyone voluntarily stay at Thiefrow for 11 hours?

She has more than enough time to visit central London or if she wants to stay closer Windsor.

i was stuck there on an 11 hour layover that turned into 19 hours; there are some chairs with no armrests but not many and they get taken quickly and jealously guarded :) i ended up sleeping on the floor on a heating vent cuz it was freezing cold in there. next time i'll do the yotel thing as mentioned above!

i was in terminal 4 so that may have something to do with it; not a lot of shops in that one
