yeap.. u can see it a lot.. couples get married 'for love'.. guy's a useless dork.. girl has never worked in her life.. and then goodbye.. love is nice and pretty, but u don't pay bills with love..

I can say, of course I was looking for a good catch, and my wife too.. She wouldn't have married me if I had quit college, or never been to it.. cuz she planned on marrying a college graduate.. same here.. it's different loving someone than living with someone u love for life..

i think some ppl are misunderstanding the original question

To me, the question is interpreted as being this...ppl say that love is blind and knows no colour, no age, no sex, no race, no religion, etc...I have dated men from different races, different cultures etc, and def different ages. My heart has finally found its home with Ian. Is he a good catch? That depends on who you ask. If you ask me...well the answer is obvious...especially since I married him. I know the next comment may sound so cliche, but if you had a life and upbringing like I did, where love was so ###### up...then you will understand why it finally makes sense to me. When I met Ian, my life was really low. But on a positive note I was starting to get it back in order. I was starting to gain control for once and was actually gaining independance. Ian really was like a season....spring. I say spring because everything was new and fresh and I really was able to look around and see things clearly. I don't expect anyone to understand that because none of you have been in my shoes. Then again, maybe some of you do. Although I had my children, my life still wasn't complete. In an ideal world, it would have been complete when I was married to my ex. But unfortunately for my children, it wasn't. Now, I don't feel that void anymore.

So to get back to the question, is love blind or are we all looking for a good catch? I would have to say yes of course to both. Love is blind in the beginning. And yes, we are all looking for a good catch. Why shouldn't we??? I may be way off base on what Steven was trying to ask, but that is my interpretation of it. I don't honestly think that there is any wrong or right answer.

I don't get the OP.

Everybody has their own idealized sets of traits they look for in a mate, but sometimes cupid throws a monkey wrench into it and your prince charming winds up being a janitor with only a 3rd grade education. How important is your mate's profession or education in making the relationship even possible? Physical appearance? Habits? Or is love truly blind?

I'm not really sure how to answer this one. I was looking for a good catch, which I ended up with in the end. But, there was one big thing that I had to overlook and that was his illegal status. It absolutely never bothered me, not one time. So, I guess I could say, love was blind, but I got my good catch after all. :D

Just couldn't stay my @ss away!

yea, interesting questions.. at least in my case.. profession, education or if we had the same goals or related.. affected my 'blindness'.. I wouldn't have married a looser (in my own definition of looser)..

In my case, I was looking for a PhD., frustrated cellist who composes Haiku. But cupid brought me a dentist who likes to sing and crack jokes.

LMFAO...I can't help but laugh at that Steven. CUpid literally brought me a clown. Read my profile..you will read how when I first met Ian face to face he met me at the airport in a clown suit pmsl. Bless him. As for his profession, I could care less. That is status quo for you...I won't even go there. He could be piss poor for all I care..He could be a janitor...or flip burgers....I have been poor, I have been rich....financially speaking that is. Now I consider myself as rich because of the man that I have. Maybe it isnt realistic for some, but for me it is becuase like I said, I have been at both ends.

I'll bet airport security just loved his clown suit. I was actually borrowing from the show, Frasier (Phd, cellist and Haiku). :P

This is a pretty specific list...what you're describing though isn't who the person is, but what they've done or accomplished. With all due respect in terms of the broader question you pose in the subject line, I'm not sure if one necessarily equals the other. Does one fall in love with someone and/or evaluate that solely on personal achievements/accomplishments? Maybe but IMO I don't think it's the most stable thing to base a marriage on.

A "good catch" in my world is someone who has certain personal qualities and also has the mindset to grow with me and within the relationship. That I found, in spades. What he have each brought to the marriage and to one another is what matters in terms of our commitment and fundamental personality, as well as the road we continue to travel together as we develop individually and as a team. The fact that we support one another in our endeavors (learning the cello or not), is to me the crux of the matter, not whether or not one of us brought it to the table.

Of course, he does compose Haiku. He doesn't even mind that most of my poetry naturally flows to iambic pentameter. ;)
