Vacation Tips and Suggestions

My husband and I are searching for an ideal cruise. It will be both our first time. :star: Do you have suggestions when it comes to the:

-cruise line?

-destination?

-date of the year?

-anything else that we ought to know as cruise newbies?

Is "Cruise to Nowhere" worth the try?

Aside from the cruise which has an open date, we are looking into flying to Mexico, Puerto Rico, or the Bahamas for a less-than-a-week break in September this year. Thoughts anyone? If we decide to choose Mexico, which is the best place to be-- Cozumel, Puerto Vallarta, or the Riviera Maya? We would love to be on a great beach where it's not crowded. SCUBA diving is a plus. My husband has gone to Cozumel and a few other places (and no, he doesn't like Cancun) but not yet to Puerto Vallarta and the Riviera Maya.

Ideas will be appreciated. :luv:

I have never done a cruise as I love to have time to explore.. However, my family has experienced cruises done by Disney and they find them to be amazing. Some friends have done cruces from FL to the Caribbean..

If I ever consider a cruise, I would probably do one that goes to Europe, Spain, Portugal, etc..

Mexico: I have been there several time.. from Acapulco to Puerto Vallarta.. as a certified diver find the Maya Riviera / Cancun [next door neighbors] to have best under water view. Visibility is over 90%..

Bahamas is a fantastic place to dive.. no question about that.. Water is crystal..

I understand why not Cancun. too much of a party city.. but if you do MR, you will find a little more collected crowd. In Puerto Vallarta, you will find great atmosphere..

I would avoid going to Mexico due to the peak in drug related violence. You might get kidnapped.

Most of the violence is on the U.S./Mexican border. Not too many cruise lines operate on the Rio Grande.

In defense of Cancun I have to say that I too was hesitant about going there but ended up having the best vacation ever! We went after spring break (intentionally) and had a great time. The ocean was amazing. I've never seen that many shades of blue. Diving was great (my first time). We didn't go party once, avoiding Coco Bongo, Senor Frogs, Margaritaville etc., we hung out by the pool, ate great and had a wonderful time. There were some annoying kids there but in all mostly couples in their 40s hanging out, at least where we were. It was awesome and as soon as we got home we started thinking about going back.

We did a 4 day cruise Tampa - Cozumel once. It was nice and we had a good time but it was a little stressful having to be back at the boat at a certain time. We did have a great time in Cozumel though and I've heard it's a diver's paradise.
