Nik did not need to show the marriage license to get the driver's license from AZ. They did give him one that expired with the I-94 while he was still under K-1 status. However, they did disappear with his passport for several minutes - I think needing to consult with a supervisor/look up the regs.

The SSN was a breeze, there is hardly any wait at the down town phoenix office on 7th ave. We've been there twice - initial issue as well as to get the unrestricted card after he had the green card, and both times the person we got knew what they were doing.

I had no issues changing my name (I'm the USC half) at the SSA or with the driver's license. Although you have to get the name changed first with SSA and they give you a letter saying you changed it, the DMV still needs the marriage cert AND the letter from SSA

im in AZ. SSN was real easy. I got it before marriage. u just go to the SSA office early in the morning preferably and then u get a number and u wait until its ur turn. u get the card in around 2 weeks. Just make sure u have ur documents with u, like passport and I-94..

If u get a driver's license before marriage, it will expire when ur K1 fiance visa expires, if u get it after marriage, they asked me for my AOS notice of action and they gave me a year's valid license, and told me i'll get the normal license when i come back with a green card.

Hello' thanks for the response.. hmm... so i think it's better to get the driver's license after marriage right? is that the instruction permit that you got for a year valid license, or the driver's license already. did you take written exams and road test right away when you get it?

yes its better to wait and get it after marriage, that will save u the trouble of reapplying for a drivers license after ur k1 fiance visa's 90days are over. u get a 1 year valid driver's license, and of course u have to pass both written exam and road test. when u show them a green card, u get a 10 year valid driver's license.

hello vj'ers... any member from arizona? and who's processing ssn and driver's license here. just wanna have an idea how it goes, coz we're working to get those before marriage.

I'm from AZ. SSN is quite easy to get. You could apply using your maiden name before you get married then just change to your married name after you have your GC.

I used my Philippines drivers license for 6 months. I applied for driver's license before the 7 month period is over. Was no problem since i already have my GC then.

Read the AZ DMV instruction to revalidate my statement re 6 month usage of Philippines license. International license is not needed.
