Interesting. I just refreshed my knowledge on this and child destruction is not an offence under Scottish law, but abortion (when not covered by the various acts that allow for medical abortions) is still covered by the 1861 Offences Against the Person Act. Wow. I do remember studying 1861 Act however.

Northern Irish law follows English and Welsh law in this matter. Thus ends a lecture surely only I find fascinating.

No that's a :o moment!

I do not think anything I could say would ever make any impact on you.

Google. It. You have to find for yourself or else you will not believe it anyway.

The truth is, despite people liking to talk about "abortion for the health of the mother," there is no actual medical reason for a woman to have an abortion.

You honestly believe you can convince armchair doctors of this? Golly. How long have you been on VJ again?

This topic has strayed far and wide from the original post, which addresses a decision of the British government to continue to allow abortions up to 24 weeks due to the fetus not having sufficiently developed nerve endings to sense pain. All discussion about US law, about whether abortion is murder, whether killing a pregnant mother is double homicide, all personal positions regarding abortion are irrelevant to the original topic. Since there can be no consensus due to the nature of the subject matter and the wide variety of personal beliefs and since the discussion is no longer on the original topic, I am closing this thread.

 I just saw Susita's post when I went to close the thread - it reached 245 posts long.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
