Hi Everyone,

I would suggest you have your spouse read this forum as the last poster did. My husband came here from Australia and left behind his family and adult children, sold his business, rented out his house, etc.... I know it was a big change. He is lucky because I met him through his childhood friend who lives a block from me. But I knew that he would need friends other than myself to balance his life. I have made a point of intruducing him to nice people and encouraging him to do things with them without me. It has worked out well, because he has his group of guy friends that ride motorcycles togheter, he has become close friends with my best girlfriends husbands and we do things with them as a family.

We are in AOS and he is still not eligable to work legally. I know that has been hard on him since he had a successful automotive electrical business in NSW. To start over, lease a shop, buy tools, get clients, employees, etc.... here will be extremely difficult. He is very handy and has been working on my house. I am a real estate agent and am going to start a home flipping business he can run so that he can be productive and make some decent money. I know it must be hard for a 50 year old man to start over but working together I know he will do well.

Welcome to our country to all of you. We will be stronger for your contributions.

my 150k management job is over....7 weeks ago now...they took my car blackberry corp card etc etc

my kids hate me for taking them from their only home/schools/friends etc...one is going to live with his father who hasnt been interested in his kids for over 6 years but talked my boy into staying with him cos usa is a horrible place to live - according to him and as for the area we are going to...well apparently in my ex's eyes its really bad...he lived in the mid west for 2 years from 14 to 16 and blames this time for all his problems.

my good stuff bikes etc has gone in a container...seeyou 9k aussie and now i need to clean up and get this house on the market as I leave monday

yeap....its like walking into a doctors surgery knowing you need an operation that will hurt and may cause irreperareable damage....

Boy am i glad i read this. its good to know im not alone. I thought I was going crazy. its been so hard for me adjusting to life in US. I felt like running back to canada a million times. I think the mind blowing adjustment was trying to find a job that was as decent as the last one. it was such a total blow to my ego... having a job that paid 50K/year to now a minimum wage dead end job. it wasnt an easy decision moving to US to leave my job that I loved. I finally gave in to going back to school and changing my career path after being here for over a year. its still hard for me to get used to the US economy. There were times I felt like running away & missed what I had. i was so stressed and it added strain to my communication with my hubby. it doesnt help I live in a very very small town with very little career opportunities. and every job that's looking to hire has to be in the medical field which I purposely tried to avoid in college lol. Now i have to go back and accept that its in demand so that is what i am going back to school for.

I def learned the true definition of "patience". I felt really good being financially independent in Canada. I now live in a small town and life is very slow, its almost piercingly painful for a city folk like me. LOL. Starting over is difficult & i would never do this again. lol. but im glad i went through it. i know i was driving my husband crazy. But dont give up when your spouse is feeling this way!!!!

i just wanted to share what my husband told me when I was feeling low about adjusting to life in US & trying to obtain the same things that I had in canada. he said "why are you in such a rush to achieve so many things? we have long years ahead of us that we are going to be spending together" and it changed my whole perspective... remember how the whole immigration process feels??? im sure it was stressful for a lot of you. all you can think about is joining your spouse. Now that I am with my hubby, i totally forgot how it felt and i should be grateful that we survived that process and enjoy our time together.

Reading your post was like reading my own thoughts.

Sometimes is so fuc*ing hard, but it is still worthy. Every night when Tim hugs me, and our feet touch, regardless how hard the day was, I am ready to do it all again. Being able to be with him is priceless for me
