I have to ask though, why would you not let your wife make a decision for herself that affects herself?

I have to ask also, Are you Mentally Retarded or do you just post that way? :bonk::bonk::bonk:

You are not very smart are you?

Decisions my wife make also affects me, and it's my job and duty to help her make the best and proper decision.

That is not how you worded it smart guy.

You said, "I wouldn't let your wife decide what she wants to do on the testing. My wife wanted to go back to PI and take NCLEX review class there, to me I understand the review classes in PI suxs and they take months to complete".

Sorry, but that sounds like you made the decision for her. Candy coat any way you want. You are not a nurse and you know nothing of the review classes in the Philippines. So feel free to call me mentally retarded. I don't need to say the same to you. You do quite an adequate job yourself.

In either post you didn't say we made a decision. Instead you said " I wouldn't let my wife" then come back and say in effect "let me make the right decision for her". In neither instance did you say "we". That is what I was referring to. If I misconstrued what you wrote than you have my apologies but your case and Piglets are not the same. Your wife is here in the US. His is not. Why waste time just idling and waiting to come over? I think the decision Piglet made was a good one.

Your wife is here in the US. His is not. Why waste time just idling and waiting to come over? I think the decision Piglet made was a good one.

I think Piglet has made a very poor decision. The pass rate for the NLE in PI is less than 50%, so if she spends her time studying for it and doesn't pass then she has possible screwed herself from getting a license in USA.

Depending on which state she applies, the BON may ask her if she has taken the locals exams in PI and if she has failed then it could have a negative effect on her getting a license in USA.

Plus there is no way his wife nor my wife would ever want to work as RN in Philippines, they have produced so many nurses the last few years that can't come to the USA due to retrogression, that being a nurse in PI is almost a waste of time, if you plan to work in USA

Piglet wife would be wise to study for NCLEX only, and find some type of business in Philippines she can operate. So once she starts working in USA she will have excess money and she will be able to buy property or run a business or several business in PI.

Working as RN in USA she can earn in salary in 1 year what it would take her 30 years of working in PI.

There is no reason she can not take the NCLEX exam if she failed it previously. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing state you can take the exam up to 8 times a year with 45 day waiting periods between each test. Now some states adjust the waiting period to more, I think I have seen up to 90 but I don't know of any that won't allow you to do a retest. In this case, New Hampshire requires you wait 45-50 days to retest.

My point of view on testing there is that having taken 5 national credentialing and licensure exams when your livelihood depends on passing that test is it can lead to a very stressful situation. It is best to decrease the amount of stressful factors. You are correct, pass rates are low for the Philippines. Many of those can be attributed to re-testers though. There are just too many nursing schools in the Philippines that have never had a student pass the boards. I will also say you are probably correct when you said the review courses are not worth it. I would argue after attending a few that no review classes even ones offered here are worth it. Either you know the information or you don't. You are not going to retain anything sitting for eight hours in a review class. What is ideal is to take a class that teaches you how to take the test. It is an art learning to tell what the question is really asking. That is why I suggest doing books or computer programs that have questions with rationales and just keep hammering away on those over and over. You will soon learn what areas you are weak in and what areas require more attention on your part. It doesn't matter where you live to be able to do this. The one problem I have with waiting like you suggest is that without constant refreshing you start to forget facts. I have seen that the longer a student waits to take their exam the more problems they usually have. Could they just be lazy or unmotivated students? Maybe. But weighing factors I have to fall back on stress. Would I be more comfortable taking a test here in the USA or traveling to some new country, new way of life, and then be able to focus on the test with all my attention? I don't think so.

I hired nurses from the Philippines back in the days when they could come over on work visas. I personally have not seen any performance issues with Filipino nurses even today. I don't think they are as strong as say ones trained back in the 80's but I feel they are as good as US trained nurses. The longer Piglets wife is away from the bedside the rustier she will get. That is a fact. Filipino nurses don't make much money in the Philippines, all too true. That is not the point though. Experience is the point. That is why some Filipino nurses will pay just so they can work in a hospital. I as an employer will prefer an experienced RN. Trained Filipino nurses still carry a decent reputation in the US.

I won't say your points for taking the test in the US are invalid, I just put more emphasis on decreasing external stress factors.

that all sounds good to me. She will have already passed her board exam in the philippines though. She starts her review class on Aug 9TH. If she is going to have to wait in the Philippines for a year for her CR-1 i don't see any reason why she shouldn't put that time to good use.

Contact the Board of Nursing for which state you would like to work and ask them if you need license from PI

You can take NCLEX anywhere in the world, you don't take it state specific

From what I remember most states don't require a local licenses in order to sit for NCLEX

Yes, most states you can endorse a USA RN's License

I think you need to do CGNFS Exam for New York

I married a pinay nurse. She took the NCLEX (several times b4 passing). California licensed her without CGFNS (which i have read is basically an English language test) but at the time, my asawa was afraid her English skills were lacking, so she got the CA license and then used reciprocity to obtain her RN License in our state, which requires CGFNS. A PH board exam passing does not mean one can practice nursing in the U.S., all 50 states require passing the NCLEX for LPN and RN.

TOEFL or IELTS are English Language Test, and as a general rule nurses from PI don't need to take them if they are here on Marriage Visa

CGNFS can do a CES or Creditinal Evalution Course by Course to say that a degree in PI is equal to a BSN in USA.

CGNFS Exam is only needed by a handful of states in the USA, I have heard for a few Pinay nurse who took it whom said it was harder than the NCLEX/RN Exam

clothes cost real money here even at a discount store.

I'm not so sure that you will find a good winter coat for sale in the Philippines

however you may find sweat shirts & they can sure be good to have in a cold climate

i myself like a good hooded sweat shirt for very cold weather & i then put my winter coat over it.

Clothing here in the USA is made to fit us fat Americans i sent my wife a small New Hampshire t-shirt & it was way too big for her. she was able to get it altered in Manila & now it fits fine.

getting clothing altered here will be costly & also be a real pain so i would say buy any cold weather clothing that you can find before you come to live in buffalo.

good luck

piglett

OH also very cute baby :)

Hi! I am a Pinay registered nurse. I just took my NCLEX yesterday and I am scheduled for my CGFNS exam on November 10. Here are some of my input in to this discussion:

1.) It is true that you can apply for NCLEX in a different state (not the USC's state). I did this myself. I will just apply for reciprocity when I arrive at my fiance's state once I have my K1 visa. Reason: So I could apply for and take my NCLEX soon without waiting for my CGFNS.

2.) CGFNS is given twice to thrice a year only, all testing centers in the world will have the same test date. This year, it's March 10 and November 10, most likely it would be around the same dates next year. If it's thrice a year, they give also give it in July or August.

3.) Starting this year, you can no longer apply in California for NCLEX if you do not have your SSN. Vermont requirements have also become more strict than the previous years.

4.) Some states would require that you pass the local boards first (they want you to submit a proof of your registration). If this is true in your case, the applicant will have to wait for the result of the local boards to be released (2 months after the exam), and get a certificate of passing from the regulating commission. Some states want a copy of the license card itself, which takes longer to process (mine took 4 months from the date of exam). If you do not have a proof of passing the local board, most likely, they would require an explanation, and it depends on the state whether the applicant will be allowed or not. For example, if the applicant does not intend to work as an RN in the Philippines, or has a pertinent US visa, some states allow the applicant to apply for NCLEX. Research on your desired state. There are lots of info on the net for each state.

5.) As for CGFNS, the local license is a MUST in the application.

Hope this helps.
