We didn't really have any particular evidence (beyond the letters of intent), but if you have anything such as receipt for engagement ring or wedding itinerary that would be fine as well.

form ds156 requires us to attach evidence of engagement. What documents can be used as the evidence of engagement? The letters of intent to marry or the receipt of engagement ring?

thanks,

lele

Really? I'm worried now. Where does it say it?

I only offer advice - not even legal. Just the plain and simple kind.

I agree with Mew - where does it say on the DS-156 to attach evidence of engagement - what # it that under or what direction location???

This is weird. I've just read the form again and couldn't find where it asks for evidence of engagement. I don't really think it's necessary at all.

The letter of intent to marry, showing you've applied for a K1 for the right reasons, was already sent out with I-129f.

It does ask you to re-send your intent to marry. Basically you will just redo the Intent to Marry letter from your I-129 with the date being now, closer to the interview...just re-stating that your intent is to marry the interviewee.

You don't have to but I also included in mine a sentence saying. "our wedding is planned for October 7th at XXX Church in Michigan followed by a reception at Apple Mountain Ski Lodge." Just to give them a basic idea of when the wedding would be and to show we had concrete plans...but the same ol' intent to marry letter with the more recent date is all you need.

Good luck!

Joey

And so he did what countless punk-rock songs had told him to do so many times before: he lived his life

10/07/2006 WEDDING DAY!

11/14/2006 AOS packet made it to 'the box' after being overnighted.

12/02/2006 Paul had biometrics

12/14/2006 AOS Forwarded to CSC AND AP Application approved.

01/17/2007 First touch of 2007 at CSC

01/20/2007 Touched AGAIN (also the 18th) come on...

February: Oops, RFE for a REGISTERED marriage certificate. Oops! Overnighted it.

02/28/2007 Paul gets email letting us know his GREENCARD is on it's way! It's done...for now!

03/09/2007 Paul's greencard arrives. And breathe...

We began with mailing the I-129 in on February 27, 2006 so the whole process took us approx. one year.

Good luck out there!

Joey, I know the guides say that the letter is needed for the interview and many VJers do it. However, nowhere in either packet 3 or 4 I've found such requirement mentioned (and certainly not in DS156). If you find it, please let me know.

It isnt' part of the checklist? Having never SEEN the checklist in person, as i'm the USC, I can't give you an exact location if it's even there at all. Paul said we needed to reaffirm our intent to marry with an updated letter so I did one...took two seconds....well hell, even if we didn't need it, still glad i did it....

No, it isn't part of the checklist. It's only mentioned on VJ guides... So I don't see why people would have any reason to worry if they don't have it. Me, for one :)

Now that you are awake:

We prepared the following for proof of engagement:

engagement ring receipt

engagement ring on her finger

letter of intent

chapel rental receipt

wedding cake order/receipt

wedding invitation

.... We were asked for none of them.

Well ... the CO did ask if she had an engagement ring and she showed it to him.
