Certified Abstract of Marriage vs Certified Marriage Certificate (in Ohio)

note: Specifically I'm looking from an answer from anyone who got married in Ohio, as I know these things seem to vary from state to state.

My wife and I went down to our local court to get a certified copy of our marriage certificate. What we got says "Abstract of Marriage" at the top, and is basically a copy of our marriage license, followed by an addition at the bottom titled "Marriage Certificate" showing when we got married. It was then stamped and signed by the clerk. Is this what we should be including when filing my AOS?

Am I right in thinking that the original is something that is filed away with the court, not something that we have?

Abstracts are brief forms that list limited information extracted from the original marriage licenses or divorce decrees. This limited information is used for index purposes and the filing of the marriage or divorce within the State of Ohio. An abstract is not a marriage license or divorce decree.

I realize that's what an abstract is, but I'm unsure that this is what I need to file with my AOS? Don't want to get an RFE for the incorrect form.

Hoping someone who filed in Ohio can let me know if that's what they did, at least... Thanks though!

Firstly Congrats on your marriage!

Secondly the paper you were given that says Abstract Of Marriage is all you will be given. We married in Ohio in the beginning of June & that is the exact thing we have sent for AOS. It lists all the relevant details required by USCIS. It states who was married, where & by whom they were married. This is what they give out as a copy of the marriage certificate

I also agree that the abstract of marriage will work, it also was accepted by the Philippine consulate for changing my wifes passport.

I am in California before filling AOS. Wondering if someone just filled recently with Abstruct or Original version of marriage certificate. Today date is Oct 12/12. Please let me know if you have recent info
