Conditional Green card received - Incorrect expanded middle name

Hi everyone,

We received our 2 year conditional green card today!!!! :) :) :) :)

101 days since the whole process started.

We noticed that the expanded middle name in the letter with which the green card came was spelt incorrectly. Since the actual GC only uses the middle initial, it was ok. But the back of the GC has the name with middle initial expanded and it is incorrect.

LAST NAME << FIRST NAME < PARTIAL MIDDLE NAME (incorrect)

Other documents where the middle name was expanded and spelt *incorrectly* were

1. Biometrics appointment letter

2. AOS interview appointment letter

We mentioned this to the IO during our AOS interview and he said they usually get

the name from the Birth Certificate and he made a note of it. This apparently did not

fix it.

The expanded middle name was spelt *correctly* on the EAD and AP documents.

Should we get this rectified? Please advice.

Thanks

Yes. who knows what sort of issues it'll cause down the line if you dont. Better to be safe than sorry. Send it in with form I-90. You won't send a fee as you'll be sending proof THEY stuffed it up (such as birth certificate)

Thank you. I searched the forums and read some horror stories where they could not track their case status for months. This was back in 2008 and 2009.

Is this still the case.

I was thinking of doing the following

1. Get new SSN card removing "with DHS authorization" clause

2. Make infopass appointment and try to get passport stamped. ( I need to travel out of the country soon)

3. Send in GC with I-90 application.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

That sounds like an excellent plan to me EXCEPT the card you currently have proves that on the DHS system your name is wrong. It's likely you'll be issued an SSN with the wrong name, or it will take a while to get a new card while they "verify" your identity.

Personally I would hold off on the unrestricted SSN (the stamp is sufficient for DHS authorisation). I would also keep a copy of the card, and the I-90 paperwork with you when you travel so you have proof (doubt you'll need it but better to be sure).

Just be wary that your name on the system is probab

Went to my infopass appointment today and the officer did not even notice the error in my middlename on my Green card and in the system. He gave me an outdated version of the I-90 form (expires 03/2009) and asked me to send the card in for replacement and said it could take 2 months. When I asked him if he'd stamp my passport, he said he can do that only if I bring him the receipt of I-90 submission. He also mentioned that the stamp will only be valid for 60days.

So, the infopass appointment was not at all helpful.

I've decided to keep the green card in it's current state as I don't want to take chances - sending it in, not getting a receipt and not being able to get the stamp on my passport.

I will (try) and get it corrected when I file for I-751 in 2 years.
