That one darned interview question...well more than one

I have an interview in less than 2 hours. I'm not stressing over it as at $7 an hour, I refuse to stresss...lol.

How is this one question best answered: "What are your weaknesses?"

That is the one question I'm always stumped on. I can give good examples in my person life but what about business life? All I've ever done is general clerical work. I've never had problems with either supervisors or co-workers. I do my job (most of which have been stress free) and go home. So...what are my weaknesses?

Also challenges you've faced in the workplace. Like I mentioned I've been in stressfree jobs, the jobs were pretty much straightforward...nothing way out there.

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now? I've investigated the job and what it entails. It doesn't appear that they have positions where you can advance into a top notice position.

Thanks for any help or advice.

I always say that I tend to be a perfectionist and also to take things personally. You can spin both of these off in a positive light saying, my work is always accurate and I put 110% into everything I do so I don't have to feel a sense of failure if things don't go right.

Don't let the sunshine spoil your rain...just stand up and COMPLAIN!

what Kind of position are you applying for. You see your self in andvanced position in five years, moving into management. The "What are your weaknesses" Question. I still haven't landed that one.

This is an investigation services company. They do background checks on potential employees for employers, searches on locating people, credit checks, some surveillance, some process serving.

To add further to this post, I had an over the telephone interview with this company 8 days ago. I thought for sure I had blown the interview because I had never had one over the telephone before and also I was really caught offguard. I never expected to hear from them again. Then on Wednesday I was asked to come in for another interview in person and I was to bring a hard copy of my resume and list of references.

I do NOT interview well, and almost always end up leaving the interview feeling like I won't hear back from them. But, I am often times offered the job, so I guess I don't do as poorly as I think.

I think some other posters have given great examples of ways to answer that question. I usually use the "perfectionist" answer too because even though it can be a weakness, I think employers love to hear that you have high standards for yourself.

Good luck at the interview.

I always say that I work too hard and will occasionally take on too much responsibility and be too helpful with other people. But, even when I do that, I work extra hard to make sure I get back to a level that I'm comfortable with.

My public policy prof in college calls this the dumbest question any interviewer can ask, and yet they always do ask it. Take something that is a positive about you, and then spin it so that it is a "negative" but still is also positive.
